As the landscape for name, image, and likeness (NIL) monetization continues to expand across college sports, third-party NIL collectives nationwide are getting creative with certain deals. The latest example comes out of Salt Lake City.
Through the Utah Crimson Collective, in partnership with Utah-based For The Win 360°, every Utah football player who is on scholarship has the opportunity to drive away in a brand-new 2024 Ram Big Horn 1500, a truck that retails for roughly $61,000. The program surprised players earlier this week with the announcement at the Utes’ Rice-Eccles Stadium.
While the players won’t own the vehicles, the collective is paying for the lease of every truck for a period of six months that voids if a player transfers or their athletic eligibility expires. The Crimson Collective is also covering insurance on the trucks.
Overall, the deal carries an estimated $6 million value.
In order to qualify, “players only need to have a good driving record and be willing to promote awareness of the Collective to help other student-athletes benefit from their own name, image, and likeness and will be encouraged to give back to their communities,” per the official release.
