Spotify Hits Record Subscription Numbers, Still Misses Revenue Projections

Spotify closed March with impressive subscription numbers, but unfortunately the audio streaming company did not meet expectations for its first-quarter profits. The Stockholm-based corporation reached 210 million paid users in March, up five million from the end of 2022 and two million more than its projection. As for non-paying customers, Spotify reached 515 million subscribers, up from 489 million from December 2022. Though earnings reached $3.3B through the end of March, it didn’t meet the expected $3.4B. Because of this, Macquarie analyst Tim Nollen teased a price increase is “likely” in order to make up for lost profits and match their competitor’s revenue.
