This Really Gigantic Michael Jordan Rookie Card Just Sold for Six Figures

A buyer paid almost $250,000 at Goldin Auctions for a 1985 MJ rookie card that’s almost four times the size of a standard trading card.

Coming up on two decades since his final retirement, there’s still no bigger name in basketball than Michael Jordan. The same goes for the world of NBA trading cards — the most coveted MJ cards can sell for a million bucks or more as the market for rare, well-preserved collectibles continues to explode.

But on Wednesday, “big” took on a whole new meaning. At Goldin Auctions, a 1985 Interlake Michael Jordan rookie card PSA-rated at perfect 10 “gem mint” condition sold for $233,700.

That’s a super-sized price, sure. But check out the size of the card itself.

That’s one giant Jordan. And given its condition, it walks on rare air.

“With a pop report of only 8 PSA 10s in existence, the 1985 Interlake Jordan has become a hot alternative Jordan rookie card that I expect will continue to grow in popularity,” Goldin Auctions founder and CEO Ken Goldin told Boardroom Breakers.

A purchase price of just a hair below a quarter-mil is serious stuff, but this extra-large card is only the latest big sale featuring basketball’s GOAT. On February 21, Heritage Auctions sold an autographed 1997 Jordan Upper Deck Game Jersey card for an amazing $1.44 million, breaking the previous MJ record sale price of $915,000 set in December of last year.

Of course, none of these super-rare cards can match the sheer size of this latest Jordan offering.

Yep, a card this big simply refuses to be ignored — just like the GOAT himself.
