After five years and more than $5 billion invested, LIV Golf is shutting down. A league attorney told a U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge Thursday that LIV could not secure the financial commitment and player support needed for LIV 2.0. The collapse followed BC Partners’ decision Wednesday not to invest $300 million, after the firm couldn’t reach terms with the other stakeholders. LIV had about 30 players committed to return for 2027 and another 10 still considering it, but that wasn’t enough to appease backers.

Good news: If you come by an invite to the 2027 Met Gala you won’t have to shell out a month’s rent for an outfit. The Met’s 2027 Costume Institute theme is “extraORDINARY: Fashion and the Poetics of the Everyday,” a deliberately casual pivot after the museum scrapped its planned John Galliano exhibition in the wake of backlash over the designer’s antisemitic remarks. The show will focus on pieces like T-shirts, jeans, and sweatshirts. According to curator Andrew Bolton everyday clothing “can hold traces of a life.” Around 230 pieces will be on display, many drawn from the museum’s own collection. The 2027 Met Gala is set for May 3, and the exhibition opens to the public May 9, 2027, running through January 9, 2028.

Kering confirmed Thursday that Pierpaolo Piccioli has left as Balenciaga’s creative director, less than two years after he took over from Demna in 2025. The Italian designer, who spent 25 years turning Valentino into one of the premiere houses before arriving at Balenciaga, debuted a romantic, couture-leaning collection drawing on Cristóbal Balenciaga’s archives. According to Kering, CEO Luca de Meo is restructuring the group’s houses. Piccioli’s exit follows Anthony Vaccarello’s departure from Saint Laurent, with Alexander McQueen also searching for a new creative director. Balenciaga has not yet named a successor.

The wellness and exercise company says its next AI-driven product will arrive in fall 2027, but it isn’t revealing what it is yet. CEO Peter Stern and the company’s Q1 2027 earnings call framed the move as part of a shift from a hardware-focused business toward a more connected wellness ecosystem built on Peloton IQ, its AI operating system. The company says the product will be a capability “only Peloton can bring to our members,” and it will be a new category rather than an update to existing equipment. The news comes as Peloton reported $559 million in revenue, its third straight quarter of year-over-year growth.

Ye (fka Kanye West), held his first formal runway show since 2022 on Thursday in Los Angeles, presenting Yeezy Season 01 at the brand’s new flagship store. A few stars, some of his children, and a handful of Ye’s old friends and artists came out to support including Kid Cudi, Big Sean, 2 Chainz, the Clermont twins, Jerry Lorenzo, and Rich the Kid. There’s no word on whether this new collection is a reboot of the Yeezy brand due to its name, but the collection did suggest that the multi-hyphenate was reestablishing himself in the fashion world.

Netflix released the trailer for Bad Day on Thursday, a “big-heart mom-com” in which Cameron Diaz plays Joy, a single mother determined to make it to her daughter’s soccer game while hilarity ensues. Her car gets towed, her bank card is declined, and she ends up an accidental criminal after a bank fraud accusation and a bus hijacking. The cast includes Danielle Brooks, Ed O’Neill as her father, Mark Duplass, Ben Schwartz, and Rob Corddry, and the film is directed by Jake Szymanski, who made the hidden-camera series Jury Duty. Bad Day premieres on Netflix December 11.

There’s a fine line between inspiration and imitation and the estate of Michael Crichton, creator of ER, is hoping to prove the creators of HBO’s The Pitt crossed it. A California appeals court ruled Wednesday that the two shows are similar enough to proceed with a lawsuit. Sherri Crichton, his widow, brought the case in August 2024, alleging that Warner Bros. and the show’s team turned a planned ER reboot into The Pitt without the estate’s permission, as required by a 1994 agreement. The court dismissed claims against Noah Wyle, John Wells, and R. Scott Gemmill, finding no evidence they knew they could be violating the contract. Whether The Pitt is a derivative work of ER will now likely be decided by a jury unless the parties settle. Warner Bros. and the show’s team have called the suit baseless.

You can go ahead and call it a comeback. Sony has brought back the MDR-3, the on-ear headphones that shipped with the original 1979 Walkman, as the MDR-3R. The 38-gram headset keeps the original look, including the slim metal headband and the boxy retro design, but swaps the 3.5mm plug for USB-C and adds an inline mic and remote. Reviewers say the sound is clear in the mids and highs but the build feels flimsy and outside noise leaks in. Just like the originals. Weirdly, the headphones won’t work with Sony’s own modern Walkman players, but will work with smartphones, tablets, and laptops.

Victor Wembanyama had the kind of night that drew MVP chants at San Antonio’s Frost Bank Center. Wemby put up career-best 52 points, 24 boards, and eight blocks to lead the Spurs past the Mavericks 112-111 on Wednesday. He hit all 15 of his first-half free throws, matching James Harden’s 2019 mark for most without a miss in a half since 1997-98, and he became the first player with at least 50 points and 20 rebounds in a one-point win since Wilt Chamberlain in 1964, for whatever that’s worth. He also finished with the most blocks in a 50-plus-point game since blocks became an official stat in 1973-74. To make it all even more impressive, Wemby said he wasn’t even 100% while playing, claiming he was sick.

Cristiano Ronaldo announced Thursday that he is retiring from international football, ending a 23-year career with Portugal. In a video message, he said he was handing back the No. 7 shirt “that belongs to us all.” He leaves as the men’s all-time leader in international goals (146 in 234 appearances) and the record holder for most international appearances. The decision follows a rift with coach Jorge Jesus, after Ronaldo walked out of a training camp and served a 30-day suspension from the federation. Ronaldo will keep playing club soccer with Al Nassr, which he is expected to leave at the end of this season. He retires less than a month after Lionel Messi ended his Argentina career. End of an era.

Chip stocks dove off a cliff Thursday thanks to a major selloff, with the Nasdaq Composite falling about 5% and entering correction territory. Nvidia, Micron, and AMD led the losses. Investors are worried that the Democratic sweep could slow AI infrastructure spending and bring tighter regulation, and tech-critical races in Texas, Georgia, and Ohio are of particular concern. Roughly $1.8 trillion came out of Nasdaq 100 stocks, wiping out Wednesday’s rally. JPMorgan analysts said the AI boom should stay on track but may become “costlier, slower, and more consolidated.”

Well, would you look at that. Two days after midterm voters rejected data center projects in 40 of 41 local ballot measures, OpenAI announced a National Community Compact. The company says it will stop using NDAs with public officials when negotiating future sites and will cover the electricity costs of data centers it owns and operates. It also pledged to publish construction plans, noise studies, and water-use plans for each community, and to invest in local services. OpenAI has also started calling its data centers “compute campuses,” because, you know, people largely seem to hate data centers. The company released a Compute Campus Policy Blueprint alongside the compact, calling on lawmakers to require developers to cover power costs and be more transparent.
