Paramount, States Reach Settlement Over $111B WBD Acquisition

Paramount Skydance and 12 state attorneys general have reached a settlement clearing the way for its $111 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. The deal requires at least 30 theatrical releases annually, $300 million in additional U.S. film production spending, and separate cable-channel negotiations for five years. It also creates editorial oversight boards for CNN and CBS News. The settlement resolves an antitrust lawsuit led by California AG Rob Bonta, allowing Paramount to move toward closing before a $7 million daily fee begins Oct. 1.

The Steinbrenner family is selling a stake in the New York Yankees to Apollo Global Management as part of a $2.6 billion financing deal, with reports differing on the size of Apollo’s eventual ownership. Sportico reports at least 4%, while the New York Post writes Apollo could ultimately hold 16%. The deal values Yankee Global Enterprises at more than $10 billion, or over $12 billion by the Post’s estimate. The Steinbrenners will retain control, while Apollo Sports Capital CEO Al Tylis joins the board.

Brad Pitt is back as Cliff Booth in the first full trailer for Netflix’s The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, the sequel to Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Directed by David Fincher and written by Tarantino, the film finds Booth working as a Hollywood fixer in 1977 while bartending and working as a projectionist. The trailer also features a jab at Leonardo DiCaprio’s Rick Dalton character. The film is set to hit IMAX on Nov. 25 before arriving to Netflix on Dec. 23.

The NFL and TMRW Sports are launching an annual Pro Flag Showcase during Super Bowl week in Los Angeles, spotlighting elite flag football players ahead of the league’s planned debut. The event will feature pro-level competition and live broadcast coverage from a custom-built venue. The new league is being developed ahead of flag football’s Olympic debut at LA 2028, with all 32 NFL owners among its investors. More than 20 million people currently play flag football worldwide.

CNN, MS NOW, and Politico are taking the Trump administration to court after the White House revoked their press credentials, blocking their journalists from the complex. The outlets are seeking to restore access, arguing the move violated their First Amendment rights and came without notice or due process. The dispute has also disrupted the White House’s TV press pool, with ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox News suspending coverage after CNN was removed from its scheduled pool duties.

Donatella Versace is launching a new fashion and beauty business with Revolve Group, joining the venture as chief creative officer. The brand will debut with beauty products before expanding into fashion, initially targeting the U.S., Latin America, Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East. Revolve will provide the technology, infrastructure and global consumer reach, while Versace brings creative direction and cultural influence. The venture marks Versace’s first major new brand following her departure from the fashion house she led for decades.

Supreme and Nike are teaming up for a new fall apparel collection, blending technical sportswear with streetwear staples. The capsule includes a reversible faux-fur parka, water-resistant nylon jackets and cargo pants, a football jersey, fleece hoodie and sweatpants, and co-branded headwear. The collection launches on Sept. 24 through Supreme’s webstore and flagship stores, with an Asia release following on Sept. 26.

Tesla has reopened reservations for its next-generation Roadster ahead of an Oct. 1 reveal in Texas, requiring buyers to put down $50,000. The event is expected to unveil the car’s pricing, specs, and production targets, alongside a demonstration of a remote-operated prototype using SpaceX cold-gas thrusters. Teasers point to a sharper, Cyber-inspired redesign. The reservation reopening comes after the Roadster’s original 2017 debut was followed by at least eight delays without entering production.

Taylor Swift is set to receive the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors, recognizing artists who expand music video through visual storytelling and work behind the camera. Doc Rivers is joining NBC Sports as an NBA analyst, appearing across NBC, Peacock, and NBCSN this season. Bitcoin climbed above $86,000 on Monday, reaching its highest level since late January as the cryptocurrency extends a recent rally. Bitcoin has gained more than 7% over the past five days and nearly 35% over three months, though it remains well below its October 2025 record of $126,198.07. The move has reignited debate over whether the recent crypto downturn is ending, with Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan calling it a potential new “crypto spring.”

Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil reboot opened with $60 million domestically, giving the franchise its biggest debut and Cregger his best opening to date. The Sony release, starring Austin Abrams, also added $43.8 million internationally for a $103.8 million global start. Made for $75 million, the film has become the year’s top-reviewed horror movie, earning a 96% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes. It also earned a B+ CinemaScore from audiences.
