Inflation Slightly Above Forecast in December
U.S. inflation came in slightly hotter than expected in December, with the annual rate at 2.7%, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, while prices rose 0.3% for the month. Food prices increased 0.7% in December and were up 3.1% year over year. Economists had forecast a 0.3% monthly increase and a 2.6% annual rate, with similar expectations for core inflation. The report offers the clearest view of inflation in months after Novemberโs unusually cool data was distorted by delayed price collection caused by the government shutdown.
