Austin Butler is in early talks to star alongside Michael B. Jordan in Joseph Kosinski’s Miami Vice reboot for Universal Pictures, Variety reported Friday. Butler would play Sonny Crockett, with Jordan as Rico Tubbs, roles made famous by Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas in the original ’80s series. The IMAX film is set to begin production next year and is scheduled for release on Aug. 6, 2027.

U.S. inflation ticked up slightly in September, with the Consumer Price Index rising 3% from a year earlier, the fastest pace since early 2025 and a small increase from August’s 2.9%. Core inflation eased marginally to 3%. The data, released late due to the government shutdown, is the only official economic report issued this month. The White House said the October inflation report will likely not be released, as the Federal Reserve prepares to cut interest rates again next week to support the labor market.

Sony/Crunchyroll’s Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc earned $3.4 million in Thursday previews at 2,500 theaters, setting up an $11 million opening weekend that could rival Black Phone 2’s expected $12 million second frame. Meanwhile, 20th Century StudiosSpringsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere took in $850,000 from previews and is projected to open between $9 to $11 million. The $55 million biopic, starring Jeremy Allen White as Bruce Springsteen, has mixed reviews at 61% on Rotten Tomatoes but strong audience reactions at 85%.

A rare Pablo Picasso portrait of his muse Dora Maar, Bust of a Woman with a Flowered Hat (Dora Maar), sold for €32 million (about $37 million) at a Paris auction on Friday. Painted in July 1943 during the end of Picasso and Maar’s relationship, the vividly colored work had been hidden from public view for over 80 years, remaining in a private family collection since its purchase in 1944. 

During Art Basel Paris 2025, Qatar Airways announced a global cultural partnership with Grammy-winning artist Swizz Beatz. Through his and wife Alicia Keys’ The Dean Collection, the collaboration introduces the Qatar Airways Creative 100, an annual initiative honoring top innovators shaping global culture across art, music, design, tech, and sport. The first Creative 100 event will debut during Art Basel Qatar in February 2026.

The World Series returns to Canada for the first time in 32 years, with the Toronto Blue Jays hosting the Los Angeles Dodgers at Rogers Centre. Pharrell Williams and the Voices of Fire choir will open Game 1, performing songs from their OPHANIM album and both national anthems. Meanwhile, the Jonas Brothers will take the field for Game 2 to perform “I Can’t Lose” from their Greetings From Your Hometown album. First pitch for both starts at 8 p.m. ET.

The NBA’s return to NBC and debut on Peacock drew huge numbers Tuesday night, averaging 5.6 million viewers, the biggest NBA Tip-Off doubleheader audience since 2010. The night peaked at 7.1 million viewers during the Oklahoma City Thunder’s double overtime win over the Houston Rockets. The Thunder-Rockets game averaged 5.9 million viewers, marking the first 2OT tip-off since 2005. In the nightcap, the Golden State Warriors beat the Los Angeles Lakers with 5.1 million watching across NBC and Peacock.

Wedding Crashers is returning to theaters for its 20th anniversary, with special screenings on Dec. 4 and 11 through a partnership between Fathom Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures. The rerelease will feature 10 minutes of deleted scenes from the film’s 2006 home edition. Originally released in 2005, starring Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson, the hit comedy earned $288 million worldwide and became an instant classic.

Aaron Rodgers said during a Zoom with Green Bay media that he intends to finish his career as a Packer, adding he hasn’t decided when he’ll retire. Speaking ahead of Sunday night’s Pittsburgh Steelers-Packers matchup – his first game against his former team – Rodgers emphasized that he holds no grudges toward the Packers and that it “is not a revenge game.”

Master P is making a musical comeback with The No Limit 5K Mix: Lost Tapes, a 25-track album released alongside Saturday’s No Limit vs. Cash Money Verzuz at ComplexCon 2025. The project celebrates No Limit’s legacy and features a powerhouse lineup, including Lil Wayne, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Gucci Mane, Jeezy, 2 Chainz, Kevin Gates, Meek Mill, Yo Gotti, and Nipsey Hussle. The Verzuz will stream live on Apple Music Saturday at 8 p.m. ET.
