The Super Bowl LVII Betting Favorite May Not Be Who You Expect

The NFL season just ended, but it’s never too early to look ahead to next season. With an assist from FanDuel Sprotsbook, the betting favorite to win the next Super Bowl might surprise you.

The Los Angeles Rams’ victory tour is still rolling along following a famous 23-20 victory in Super Bowl LVI over the Cincinnati Bengals, the franchise’s first Lombardi Trophy since the Greatest Show on Turf 22 years ago. And while the hangover from such a big win has every right to extend deep into the springtime, we refuse to acknowledge that it could ever be too early to look ahead to next February.

Because someone is going to win Super Bowl LVII in Glendale, Arizona. And if you happened to take a look this week over at the NFL futures odds at FanDuel Sportsbook, the betting favorite to win the big one might not be who you expect. In fact, much like the surprising Bengals, they’ve never won the big game at all.

Give it up for your Buffalo Bills.

FanDuel Sportsbook futures odds to win Super Bowl LVII (as of Feb. 15, 2022)

Jan. 23’s Divisional Round thriller between the Bills and the victorious Chiefs was almost certainly the NFL’s single best game of the year, if not one of the very best ever. Buffalo obviously belongs in this conversation. But given Kansas City’s recent trajectory — and the fact that they’ve tasted Super Bowl glory already during this current Patrick Mahomes-Andy Reid era — it feels a bit surprising that they’re not only given pole position odds over the defending champions from Los Angeles, but high-flying KC as well.

As for the AFC chams who feel just short of a first-ever Super Bowl title Sunday? Well, they’re right back to nobody-believes-in-us status, pegged at a humble +2000 that ties them with the decision rival Baltimore Ravens.

Of course, a whole lot needs to play out before we have a sense of next season’s true top dogs, from free agency to the NFL Draft and beyond. But for now, the Bills Mafia has every right to feel some wind in its sales.

The old days are over, table-smashers. You’re not underdogs anymore.
