Kid Cudi: From Louis Vuitton to the Director’s Chair

Last Updated: March 24, 2022
Cudi showed off luxurious jewelry pieces for the unisex LV Volt collection, and then unveiled the ultimate luxury for his fans: original content, coming in the form of his directorial debut.

Up until now, I was under the impression that the best Kid Cudi accessories were constantly on-point fingernail polish, out-loud hair colors, and this four-month-old goldendoodle named Nino Brown. Those are still quintessential to the Cudi aesthetic, but now, the rapper’s wrist is also a featured player.

On Tuesday, Louis Vuitton unveiled its LV Volt fine jewelry campaign featuring Cudi alongside actresses Alicia Vikander and Jin Chen.

Cudi models the jet black, electric blue, and lucky green LV Volt Upside Down Play bracelet, all sporting yellow gold. The pieces are listed on the official website for a cool $3,995. (For consistency’s sake, it should be noted that the hip-hop icon is sporting matte black nails.)

The triple bracelet set doubly represents high fashion and Cudi’s own position as a triple threat across music, fashion and film.

It was a big morning for Cudi, as he also announced he will be “directing my first feature film Teddy at Netflix, which I wrote and will also be starring [in]”:

The 38-year-old shared that the film’s producers are JAY-Z, Jeymes Samuel, James Lassiter, MAD SOLAR, and BRON.

Teddy won’t be Cudi’s first Netflix foray, as he starred in Adam McKay’s star-studded sci-fi satire Don’t Look Up last December. He and Ariana Grande played romantic interests and collaborated on “Just Look Up” for the soundtrack.

On the fashion front, Cudi has held a strong association with Louis Vuitton because of his close bond with the late Virgil Abloh, who had served as the menswear artistic director and designer since March 2018.

After Abloh’s unexpected passing in late November — he had privately been battling cardiac angiosarcoma for two years — Cudi performed at Abloh’s final Louis Vuitton runway show days after his death in Miami.

Cudi then teased that he has two albums set to release in 2022, including Entergalactic this summer, while performing his Rolling Loud set later in December.

Altogether, this confirms an already undeniable fact: Cudi is at the intersection of everything.
