Closing Out the Year with KD

With Kevin Durant’s season on a brief pause, he took the time to talk about Kyrie Irving’s return, Stephen Curry’s 3-point record, and more on “The ETCs.”

With a 23-9 record, the Brooklyn Nets sit atop the Eastern Conference, and Kevin Durant is naturally a major reason why. At 29.7 points per game, KD leads the league in scoring, and his 51-point masterpiece earlier this month was the highest-scoring game of the season.

His season came to a brief halt when he was placed under the NBA’s health and safety protocols on Dec. 19, but with some time off to gather his thoughts, KD sat down for a special, socially distanced COVID protocol episode of Boardroom’s “The ETCs” podcast.

For Durant, a self-quarantine is closer to normal than most, as he spends his time grinding away on NBA 2K22 and shuffling through streaming services for movies and TV shows to watch.

“I like the grind, man,” KD said as he discussed grinding for badges on 2K with his newfound free time.

The return of Durant’s teammate and friend Kyrie Irving has been the talk of the NBA the entire season, and just before Durant was ruled inactive, the Nets announced that Irving was going to make his return as a part-time player for the Nets in road games.

“With us getting ravaged by COVID, and us down so many bodies, it felt like the perfect time to add a fresh body back into the equation,” Durant said of Kyrie’s return. “Adding Kyrie to the equation just makes us so much better as a team. He was down, we were down, it was pretty simple, to be honest.”

His former teammate Stephen Curry has also been the talk of the town. Steph broke Ray Allen’s NBA record for most career 3-point field goals earlier this month in New York against the Knicks, the same night Durant put up a triple-double in a win over the Raptors just across the East River at Barclays Center.

KD stopped by to congratulate Steph late that night in a postgame celebration in Manhattan, even though he wasn’t gifted for his help along the way like Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala were, much to his dismay.

“I happened to run into him, and it was cool to see everybody from the Warriors and kind of be in on that celebration a little bit because I got a couple of assists in there too, you know?” Durant said with a laugh.

But Durant wasn’t done there, as he discussed hearing MVP chants for Steph in arenas throughout the league — including at the Barclays Center.

Additionally, he talks his love for the grind of an NBA season, the movies and TV shows he’s been watching while in quarantine, the Kanye West/Drake concert, and much more on this latest, year-end episode of “The ETCs.”
