The Houston Rockets rookie sensation announced on Friday that he will join Kevin Durant at Coinbase as its newest athlete partner.
As one of the league’s most promising young players, Rockets rookie Jalen Green has his eyes on his future. So while he prepares for the NBA Slam Dunk contest this weekend as part of the NBA All-Star festivities in Cleveland, he announced on Friday that he has signed with Coinbase as an official partner. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski was the first to report the news.
Green joins Kevin Durant, who linked up with Coinbase as a collaborator last December.
“I’m excited to expand into the crypto and Web3.0 world… and looking forward to my partnership with Coinbase and the opportunity to have a new way to connect with my fans, create and express myself,” Jalen Green tells Boardroom.
Green has proven himself as a “modern-day renaissance athlete,” Coinbase said in a release. Known for his explosive first step as much as his signature swag in the tunnel, Green has demonstrated his skills as a bridge-builder in his short time in the league.
The partnership is a perfect fit for the California native, who is no stranger to being a trailblazer. He bypassed college to make a splash in the G-League before being drafted second overall in 2021. The alternative possibilities that crypto presents align with Green’s own journey to the NBA.
As part of his collaboration with Coinbase, Green will help educate the next generation of the crypto curious about how they can leverage alternative currency as a tool for a secure financial future. Additionally, he’ll collaborate with Coinbase on an exclusive line of NFTs — an exciting opportunity for fan engagement.
Green’s partnership with Coinbase will help the next generation understand that there is more than one map for success.
Coinbase and Green debuted the announcement with the help of yet another rising star. Texas artist Angel Wang created a custom space-inspired piece of art.
In its official statement, Coinbase indicated that it was a perfect collab:
“Wang’s work always has a sense of grandiosity about it, which is perfect to underline how big this Jalen Green collaboration is.”
Perhaps as big as this weekend could be for Green, should he fly high enough in the dunk contest.
