A’ja Wilson Takes MVP Honors as Team USA Wins FIBA Title

There is no rest for WNBA superstar A’ja Wilson. Wilson hopped a flight to Australia just hours after celebrating the Las Vegas Aces‘ WNBA title run. There she joined Team USA to battle for international bragging rights. The team put together a championship performance, beating China 83-61 in the final game. Fueled by powerful play by Wilson and her Aces teammates Chelsea Gray and Kelsey Plum, the team took home their fourth-straight gold. Meanwhile, Wilson locked in the tournament’s MVP honors.

Will “Entergalactic” Be Kid Cudi’s Final Album?

Kid Cudi’s Entergalactic is a creative breakthrough for his career, but it might be his last album, so he says. Cudder’s newest Netflix project features the Cleaveland native taking on multiple roles, from music production to acting. Upon its release, Kid Cudi had a lot to say about his creative future. “The Kid Cudi stuff, I think I want to put it on the back burner and chill out with that,” he told Apple Music‘s Zane Lowe. “I think, I want to be done with it. I think I’ll close the chapter on Kid Cudi.” He also mentioned that he wants to spend more time with his daughter as she grows up.

Rachel Nichols Lands With Showtime

Rachel Nichols is back reporting on the NBA. Showtime announced on Friday that Nichols is joining the network’s sports division to work on the basketball content vertical as a host and producer. ESPN removed Nichols from its NBA daytime show The Jump in 2021 after an audio recording surfaced, including comments she made about former colleague Maria Taylor. “I’ve been so fortunate to live my dream job alongside some of the best journalists in the business for more than 25 years, and this new development deal with Showtime Sports gives me my most broad playing field yet,” she said in a statement.

EA Sports Bids Farewell To FIFA

Friday’s release of FIFA 23 marks the end of an era for gamers. EA Sports and FIFA confirmed the split in May. FIFA will seek other partners, while EA hassaid it will rebrand the game as “EA Sports FC.” The breakup ends a 30-year relationship for one of the most popular video game franchises ever. The FIFA franchise has brought in more than $20 billion in sales over the past two decades, per the New York Times. FIFA received roughly $150 million annually from EA Sports under their most recent agreement.

Nets Set Sights For Brooklyn Bridge Park Event

The Brooklyn Nets are preparing for a title run. But before the season officially tips off, the team looks to get rooted in the surrounding community. This year they’re heading to Brooklyn Bridge Park for an open, outdoor practice. The popular park is one of the most prominent places to hang out in Brooklyn, featuring soccer fields, basketball courts, food stands, a rollerblading rink, and more. All with killer views of the New York City skyline. The Nets announced that artists Joey BadA$$ and Flipp Dinero will perform at the event, scheduled to take place on Oct. 9.

Blake Griffin Ships Up to Boston

Five-time NBA All-Star Blake Griffin has signed a one-year contract with the Boston Celtics. The forward, who most recently played for Brooklyn, provides some depth and veteran leadership after Robert Williams underwent knee surgery and Danilo Gallinari tore his ACL at the FIBA games. In 12 NBA seasons, the 33-year-old has earned $258 million. He is set to make a fully guaranteed $2.9 million this season.
