Post Malone and Swae Lee’s “Sunflower” Sets RIAA Records

Everyone wants a piece of the Spider-verse. The franchise’s 2018 animated smash, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse featured a star-studded soundtrack.The breakout hit “Sunflower” by Post Malone and Swae Lee has moved into the RIAA record books, becoming the first single in history to go 17X platinum. Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” previously held the top spot.

Amazon Prepares to Lay off 10,000 Workers

Just hours after Jeff Bezos announced that he was preparing to give away the majority of his wealth while he was still alive, reports emerged that Amazon is preparing to lay off nearly 3% of its workforce. Overall, the personnel adjustments will impact approximately 10,000 people in corporate and technology positions and are expected to start as soon as this week, according to the New York Times. Per the NYT, cuts will focus on the teams that work on projects affiliated with the company’s voice assistant Alexa, along with those in retail and human resources.

OBJ Sues Nike for Breach of Contract

Odell Beckham Jr. is expected to land with a new team sometime in the coming weeks. However, the wide receiver is tying up some loose ends off the field before he returns to action. The Super Bowl champion revealed on Monday that he is suing Nike for alleged breach of contract that deprived the former Ram of millions of dollars. The Swoosh cited violations of footwear and glove policies in its refusal to pay. In a statement, OBJ said, “Throughout our partnership, I have kept my promise and fulfilled my obligations to the brand. I am extremely disappointed that I’ve had to take these measures to ensure Nike fulfills their obligations and promises.” He is seeking up to $20 million, which he said that the Beaverton brand withheld. 

USWNT Star Ashlyn Harris Announces Retirement from Club and Country

Last night, the stars were out in New York City. The USWNTPA celebrated equal pay at the Players’ Ball. As the stars of the team filed in, one cornerstone announced the end of an era. Goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris utilized the event to reveal that she is retiring from professional soccer. A staple of the senior national team since 2009, Harris most recently played for the NWSL’s NY/NJ Gotham FC

Nike Gets Digital with Launch of .Swoosh

Nike .Swoosh has turned into one of the biggest players in Web3, NFT, and digital apparel since 2021. Now, .Swoosh is building around Web3, spotlighting the brand’s NFT and virtual apparel initiatives, including ways for customers to become co-creators in digital royalties. “We are shaping a marketplace of the future with an accessible platform for the Web3-curious,” said Nike Virtual Studios GM Ron Faris, in a release. “In this new space, the .Swoosh community and Nike can create, share, and benefit together.”

Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield are All Ears

Despite once being fierce rivals in the ring, Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield are teaming up. The pair will sell TYSON 2.0 ‘Holy Ears’ — a nod to the 1997 bout in which Tyson bit off part of Holyfield’s ear. The cannabis treats will be manufactured under Tyson’s newly formed brand house Carma Holdings. The edibles are all-natural, vegan, and gluten-free. They come in multiple forms, including THC, Delta 8, and other hemp-cannabinoid varieties and will be on sale in Arizona, Illinois, Nevada, and New Jersey.

Ted Lasso Delivers Hometown Messages for USMNT Players

Everyone needs a proper pump up talk. With the USMNT setting out to compete in the World Cup in less than a week, Jason Sudeikis’ famous television character Ted Lasso has been leaving encouraging billboards in players’ and coaches’ hometowns before they depart for Qatar. The billboards feature yellow paint and blue lettering, all in run-on sentences much like Ted Lasso’s distinctive style. 

Eminem Celebrates 20th Anniversary of “8 Mile” with Pop Up

Celebrating the 20-year anniversary of his critically acclaimed film 8 Mile, Eminem has brought a pop-up shop to SoHo called “Mom’s Spaghetti” — an ode to a famous lyric in the chart-topping song “Lose Yourself.” The pop-up joint recreates the 8 Mile set. The concept restaurant isn’t the first for Eminem who opened another location in Sept. 2021 in Detroit – home of the real-life 8 Mile. Each location also features exclusive merchandise and vinyl records available to purchase.
