Lionel Messi Is Headed to Inter Miami

After reportedly turning down a $1.6 billion offer to join Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, Lionel Messi is headed to Inter Miami FC. The club announced the arrival of the footballing legend Wednesday afternoon. The Athletic reports the reigning World Cup champ could make his Inter Miami debut as early as July 21 against Mexican club Cruz Azul in the inaugural Leagues Cup. Details of Messi’s compensation have yet to be revealed, but the incentives are unparalleled. Messi will reportedly earn a share of the revenue from new subscriptions for MLS Season Pass on Apple TV. Jersey and footwear sponsor Adidas will also reportedly share MLS-related profits for the former Paris Saint-Germain star. Messi inked a lifetime deal with the German sportswear brand in 2017.

Jalen Hurts Stars in Teyana Taylor’s Short Film With Jordan Brand

Jalen Hurts is having a year to remember, and it’s only just getting better for the Philadelphia Eagles QB. During his time away from the gridiron, Hurts is playing a different role. Co-starring alongside Teyana Taylor in a Jordan Brand commercial, the Texas native plays the role of a mailman, delivering invites to a ball. Emulating Rapunzel, Taylor initially declines the invite, but her “fair godfather” DJ Khaled convinces her otherwise. The short film ends with Hurts returning the rose pin Taylor abandoned as she ran away when the clock struck 23. In her Instagram post debuting the film, Taylor said it was her “love letter to Harlem and all of the dreamers around the world.”

Ally Financial and Charlotte Sports Foundation Announce Ally Tipoff

On Wednesday, the Charlotte Sports Foundation and Ally Financial announced the Ally Tipoff, a joint venture that sees the University of Iowa and Virginia Tech women’s basketball teams face off against each other on Nov. 9. Each squad features players who have single-handedly catapulted their teams to nationwide dominance: Caitlin Clark for Iowa and Elizabeth Kitley for Virginia Tech. More details of the showdown will be announced as we approach the date, but expect the match to air live on ESPN.

Chris Licht’s Run at CNN Comes to an End

After a chaotic year at the helm of one of the most popular cable news networks in the country, chief executive and chairman of CNN  relieved Chris Licht of his duties on Wednesday. “I met with Chris and he will be leaving CNN,” David Zaslav, the chief executive of parent company Warner Bros. Discovery, told CNN employees. Having only held his role since May 2022, Licht’s internal conflicts with on-air talent and distrust with employees were just a couple of many catalysts behind his eventual downfall. Zaslav informed team members that the company is “in the process of conducting a wide search,” both internally and externally for a new network chief, adding that the search will “take a while.” In the meantime, a trio of internal execs will take over: talent boss Amy Entelis, editorial head Virginia Moseley, and programming chief Eric Sherling.

Karol G’s New Deal with Interscope Unlocks Her Masters

Latin musician Karol G has inked a contract with Interscope Records. The Columbian-born, Grammy-winning artist signed to Universal Music Latin Entertainment in 2016. Other famous faces a part of the Interscope family include the likes of Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar, Billie Eilish, and Olivia Rodrigo. The 32-year-old is also planning on embarking on her her Mañana Será Bonito Stadium Tour in August. “Karol G is without a doubt one of the most powerful, creative and dynamic artists in the world,” said John Janick, chairman and CEO of Interscope Geffen A&M Records of the partnership. “We are thrilled to welcome her into the IGA family and look forward to working with her and her team on the next phase of her incredible career.”
