Spurs Lock in Victor Wembanyama with the First Pick in the NBA Draft

French phenom Victor Wembanyama is headed to the San Antonio Spurs. With the first overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft, the five-time Finals champs selected the 7’5″ wunderkind on Thursday night in Brooklyn. Now, Wemby won’t officially be a rookie until he puts pen to paper on a deal, but it doesn’t hurt to wonder how much the 19-year-old stands to make in his first year. Per Boardroom’s Sam Dunn, the Spurs’ 2023-24 salary scale is $9,983,300. Keep in mind, Wemby is also likely to attract a slew of endorsements in addition to his contract, adding to his current Nike deal. At long last, the Spurs (hopefully) have their next franchise guy.

To see basketball players and baseball players and surfers, entertainers and my own teammates and colleagues across the league reach out and either share their story about their own medicine journey or ask to be a part of an upcoming one was pretty special.”
