Ohio State’s Stroud and Smith-Njigba Post Career Days in Thrilling Rose Bowl

Freshman quarterback – and Heisman finalistCJ Stroud had an epic performance on Saturday as he led the Buckeyes to a last-minute 48-45 comeback win over Utah in Pasadena. Stroud lit up the Rose Bowl with six touchdowns and 573 yards, and his favorite target was Jaxson Smith-Njigba, who took down 347 receiving yards and three touchdowns. 

Ricardo Pepi Sets MLS and Club Records with FCAugsburg Move

FC Augsburg has reportedly acquired the USMNT star from FC Dallas. Although the details of the deal are not completely available at this time, it is expected that the $20 million transfer fee plus add-ons is an MLS and club record. The 18-year-old forward is en route to Germany and set to complete medical examinations on Sunday to finalize the move.

Jake Paul Baits Dana White, Lists Conditions for UFC Fight

Jake Paul promised that he would retire from boxing if Dana White gave him a chance in the octagon. However, the 24-year-old laid out a list of conditions, including increasing the minimum pay per fighter, distributing 50% of annual revenues to UFC fighters, and providing long-term healthcare. Paul gave White five days to respond and set a timeline to implement the changes to March 31, 2022.

NFL Commits Final Two Weeks of Regular Season to Social Justice

Just over 18 months ago, in the midst of social unrest after the murder of George Floyd, the NFL announced it was going to commit $250 million over the course of 10 years to combat systemic racism. The $250 million is divided into three categories: league-issued social justice grants, team contributions, and NFL Foundation matching grants. And this year, for the first time, the NFL is committing the final two weeks of the regular season to highlight efforts to promote education, criminal justice reform, and community empowerment with the debut of its “Inspire Change” initiative.

In Advance of Public Token Sale, Overeality Raises $5M

The Palo Alto-based company announced on Saturday that it has successfully completed a $5 million round of fundraising led by DHVC. Overeality pitches itself as an NFT and Web3 community, which contributes to the technical capacities of the metaverse, and is scheduled to launch its first public token in early 2022. In confirming the successful round, Overeality teased that in advance of its token drop it will announce key endorsements, including an A-list actor and a professional athlete. 

Arctos Nears Deals with NHL’s Wild and Lightning

Soon after the NHL revised its stance on private equity in the league, Arctos Sports Partners is nearing finalized agreements for minority stakes in both the Minnesota Wild and the Tampa Bay Lighting. Arctos expanded their sports portfolio in 2021, acquiring stakes in the Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors, and are reportedly eyeing more investments in the near future.
