Dawn Staley Becomes Highest-Paid Coach in Women’s NCAA Basketball History
The University of South Carolina has locked in women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley through the 2029-30 season. With the new deal, the three-time national championship-winning coach becomes the highest-paid coach in women’s basketball history. The veteran coach’s extension begins with an annual base salary of $4 million, but is supplemented by an annual $250,000 escalator and a $500,000 signing bonus, bringing the total value to approximately $25.25 million. In a statement shared by the university, Staley said, “I look forward to continuing to be an example of how an investment in women’s basketball is one that will pay off for everyone.”
Supreme Court Upholds TikTok Ban
The Supreme Court unanimously decided to ban TikTok on Friday, identifying the popular social media app as a meaningful threat to national security. As a result, TikTok is subject to shut down if its Chinese parent company ByteDance does not sell it ahead of the Sunday deadline. TikTok argues that the impending ban infringes on the First Amendment rights of both the company and its account holders.

According to Sportico, Inner Excellence, the book the Philadelphia Eagles wideout was seen reading on the sidelines could lead to a partnership for Brown with its author, Jim Murphy. Murphy is scheduled to attend Sunday’s divisional round game between the Eagles and the Los Angeles Rams in at Lincoln Financial Field as a guest of the team. No terms have been reached yet, but Murphy did tease the likelihood of dropping an updated version of the virally popular book. Miami Dolphins to host NFL’s First game in Spain in Real Madrid’s Stadium
The NFL announced Friday that the Miami Dolphins will serve as the designated team when the NFL plays its first-ever game in Spain next season. In partnership with the city of Madrid and Comunidad de Madrid, the AFC East squad will play at the iconic Bernabéu Stadium, home to La Liga powerhouse Real Madrid C.F. The Dolphins will unveil its competitor, as well as the game date and kickoff time, when the full 2025 NFL schedule drops in the spring.

Lonnie Ali is on a mission to continue her late husband Muhammad Ali’s legacy. According to News10, Ali is teaming up with John Ramsey, the boxer’s close friend, on an eight-part audio series called Ali in Me. The program debuts Jan. 23 on Audible. Per the outlet, the series will explore the “lasting impact beyond the boxing ring through his own words in never-before-heard audio and explore his commitment to fighting injustice.” Guests expected to make cameos in the series are Billy Crystal, Common, Rosie Perez, Killer Mike, Bob Costas, and Ali’s daughter Laila.

FIFA Club World Cup Begins Tiffany & Co. Partnership with 29-City Trophy Tour
Ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup kicking off this June, organizers for the tournament launched its 29-city tour to show off the massive trophy designed by Tiffany & Co. The festivities kicked off in New York City on Thursday at The Landmark, Tiffany & Co.’s iconic Fifth Avenue flagship store, with a performance from renowned pianist and composer Alexis Ffrench. Hard Rock Stadium in Miami will host the opening match between Al Ahly FC and Inter Miami CF, but the tournament’s 63 games will be played across 11 cities and 12 stadiums.
Cooper Flagg Joins Fanatics and Fanatics Collectibles
Cooper Flagg has inked a multi-year deal with Fanatics, the sports memorabilia company confirmed Friday. Per the release, the Duke freshman’s agreement includes trading cards, autographs, and game-worn memorabilia. The hype video announcing the news concludes with an image reveal of his 2025 Bowman University Chrome Basketball card, which will be released at a later date.
