British Billionaire Jim Ratcliffe Eyes Significant Stake in Manchester United

Manchester United may soon have a new significant stakeholder. ESPN reports that British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe is in talks to purchase a 25% stake in the club. The news comes just one day after Qatar’s Sheikh Jassim withdrew his bid for the team when he was unable to purchase it outright. A source familiar with the negotiations revealed that Ratcliffe seeks decision-making rights that would otherwise not be included for a stakeholder of his size. Currently, the Glazer family owns a 69% stake, but the family seeks an investor to help with the club. Early reports indicate that this is Ratcliffe’s first step towards a full club takeover for the lifelong Man U fan.
