Sabrina Ionescu Secures Final Unrivaled Roster Spot
Sabrina Ionescu is joining Unrivaled as the new 3-on-3 league’s final player for its inaugural season, tipping off next month. The reigning WNBA champion and USA Basketball gold medalistwill join the Phantom BC after they orchestrated a three-team trade Saturday night that also resulted in the acquisition of Natasha Cloud. Ionescu joins Cloud, Satou Sabally, Marina Mabrey, Brittney Griner, and Katie Lou Samuelson on the squad. The season tips off on Jan. 17 in Miami.
Universal Music, Amazon Expand Partnership
Universal Music Group and Amazon announced Monday they’ve expanded their partnership to “enable further innovation, exclusive content with UMG artists, and advancement of artist-centric principles.” In the statement, the two powerhouse companies vowed to work together to address the rise of unlawful AI-generated content and protect against misattribution and fraud. With the new partnership, the two companies also teased a new feature called Streaming 2.0. The strategy focuses on innovation, consumer segmentation, geographic expansion, and higher average revenue per user through multiple ways of consumption (audiobooks, radio, music, etc).
Honda, Nissan Exploring Potential Merger
In a Monday press release, Honda and Nissan confirmed they have formally agreed to hold talks over the next six months on a possible merger that would create the world’s third-largest automaker by sales. Once strong competitors, the Japanese automakers will work to combine their operations under a joint holding company. The two hope to proceed with the merger after an official review, expected to be completed by the end of January 2025, Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe confirmed.

Prince, The Clash, Frankie Beverly, and Frankie Valli are among the Grammys’ 2025 Lifetime Achievement honorees, the Recording Academy announced Monday. The complete list includes Roxanne Shantéb, Dr. Bobby Jones, and Taj Mahal. Recipients will be celebrated one day before the 67th Grammy Awards on Feb. 1 at Wilshire Ebell Theater. Last year’s Lifetime Achievement honorees included N.W.A., Donna Summer, and Gladys Knight.
DAZN Acquires News Corp.’s Foxtel for $2.1B
In a deal worth $2.1B, DAZN confirmed they’ve purchased Australian media company Foxtel Group from Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp for $2.1 billion including debt. Under the agreed upon terms, News Corp will pick up a board seat and hold a 6% stake in DAZN, the sports streaming platform headquartered in London. Although it is a broadcasting partner for Spain’s LaLiga, Serie A in Italy, Germany’s Bundesliga, and Ligue 1 in France, DAZN also provides access to the NFL, boxing, and baseball. The acquisition is expected to close next year subject to regulatory approvals
‘Superman’ Trailer Breaks Record With 250 Million Views in First 24 Hours
The newest Supermanfeature might not arrive in theaters until next summer, but the teaser trailer might foreshadow a box office success. Released on Dec. 19, director James Gunn said it was viewed 250 million times in its first 24 hours, making it the most viewed trailer in the history of both DC and Warner Bros. Another comic book blockbuster, Marvel’sDeadpool & Wolverinemaintains the record for biggest trailer launch of all time with 365 million views in its first 24 hours. Superman opens in cinemas on July 11, starring David Corenswet in the titular role.
