The Weeknd Sets New Artist Standard with Catalog Deal in $1B Range
Representatives for The Weeknd confirmed to Variety that the “Blinding Lights” singer has agreed to a deal with Lyrics Capital Group, reportedly valued in the $1 billion range. The Weeknd will retain creative control of his massive catalog and any future projects under the agreement, a sharp contrast from similar deals in which the musician relinquishes all rights to their material. Rather than a catalog sale, the pact sets what his rep called “a new standard for artist equity and control.”
Future Joins Jude Bellingham as Louis Vuitton ‘Friend of House’
Expect to see Future in more Louis Vuitton moving forward after the luxury French fashion house announced Monday the appointment of the Grammy Award winner as its latest ‘Friend of House.” Future famously wore LV earlier this year at the 2025 Met Gala and last June, attended the brand’s spring 2026 men’s fashion show in Paris. He joins an A-list of other Friends of the House that includes Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham, French actor Tahar Rahim, and pro skateboarder Tyshawn Jones.
Mariah Carey Set for Olympic Debut at Milano Cortina Winter Olympics
Mariah Carey has signed on to perform at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, the first international artist to commit to grace this year’s opening ceremony stage. Scheduled for Feb. 6 at the Milano San Siro Olympic Stadium, this marks Carey’s first time performing at the Olympics. Celebrated ballet dancer Roberto Bolle will headline the closing ceremony, which will be held at Verona’s ancient Roman Arena on Feb. 22.
Audi Reveals Official Team Name Ahead of Formula 1 Debut Season
Following the deal to acquire Sauber in October 2022, Audi is rebranding from the previous team and, ahead of its entry into Formula 1 in 2026, will officially be known as Audi Revolut F1 Team. The name includes Revolut, a global fintech firm that joined Audi as its title partner. Ahead of its debut, the team will unveil its complete 2026 race livery during an event in Berlin on Jan. 20
Cristiano Ronaldo Could Appear in ‘Fast & Furious 12’, Vin Diesel Says
As production continues for the final installment of the Fast & Furious franchise, Vin Diesel shared that he’s written a role for soccer legend Cristiano Ronaldo. It’s unclear in what capacity we’ll see the ex-Real Madrid forward, but the 12th film is scheduled to premiere in April 2027. Should it come to fruition, Ronaldo would join the likes of Charlize Theron, Dwayne Johnson, Helen Mirren, Cardi B, John Cena, and other celebrities who have appeared in the series.
‘Zootopia 2’ Regains Box Office Title in Third Weekend Push
In a win for Disney, Zootopia 2 returned to the top spot of the weekend box office, earning $23 million in its third weekend in theaters. Already crossing the $1 billion mark in global earnings, it joins the live-action Lilo & Stitch as the only Hollywood titles this year to surpass $1 billion worldwide. In other box office news, the sequel Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 collected $15.4 million during its second weekend of release, bringing its domestic haul to $95.5 million.
Ciara to Headline TikTok’s First Awards Show Celebrating Creators
Ciara will headline the first-ever TikTok Awards, taking place live at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles on Thursday. The event aims to recognize digital creators and will stream on TikTok and Tubi, with a red carpet at 5 p.m. and the ceremony starting at 6 p.m. Additional presenters include popular TikTok creators and celebrities such as Tan France, Paris Hilton, and Trixie Mattel.
Disney to Give Beauty and the Beast’s Gaston the Spotlight in New Film
Disney is developing a live-action film centered on Gaston from Beauty and the Beast, with Dave Callaham writing the script and Michelle Rejwan producing. The project will tell a new, original story with a different actor and a swashbuckling tone, though no director is attached yet. The term captures the influx of annoying yet widely consumed AI-generated material in 2025, from fake news and propaganda to junky books and viral videos. Originally meaning soft mud in the 1700s, “slop” later came to describe waste or something of little value, making it a fitting label for today’s flood of disposable online content.
LaKeith Stanfield Takes Over Dennis Rodman Role in ’48 Hours in Vegas’
LaKeith Stanfield has replaced Jonathan Majors as Dennis Rodman in 48 Hours in Vegas, a film about Rodman’s Las Vegas trip during the 1998 NBA Finals. Majors was originally cast but was dropped from the project after his 2023 assault and harassment conviction. The movie is directed by Rick Famuyiwa and produced by Lionsgate.
