Damar Hamlin Creates Scholarships to Honor Medical Staff Credited with Saving His Life
When Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin returned to Cincinnati’s Paycor Stadium Sunday night, it marked his first time back since he was resuscitated on the field after suffering cardiac arrest in January. This time, Hamlin met with the 10 medical professionals who helped him regain consciousness that Monday night. The 25-year-old treated the UC Medical Staff members to dinner and surprised each of them with a scholarship in their name. Chasing M’s, Hamlin’s non-profit, will award $1,000 in scholarships to “support youth in Cincy to chase their dreams” for the next three years. There will be 10 people picked to correspond with the 10 medical professionals who aided Hamlin.
Alcohol Sales Rising in Power Five College Football Stadiums, Survey Says
According to a report published by the Associated Press on Monday, 80% of Power Five conference schools, as well as independent Notre Dame, now sell alcohol in the public areas of their stadiums on game days. That means 55 of the eligible 69 institutions. Of the remaining colleges, some sell booze in non-public areas of the venue, such as suites; others do not sell alcohol at all. The study also found that 19 schools currently in Power Five conferences began selling alcohol to spectators during college football games in 2019. Before that, just 20 such schools allowed it. After years of selling alcohol, the University of North Carolina says it has made about $4 million in sales. After having $320,213 in net sales during the 2019-20 athletic year, the school quadrupled that number last year and will see another jump after this season.
