Jaden Smith Tapped as Christian Louboutin’s Men’s Creative Director
Christian Louboutin has appointed Jaden Smith as his first men’s creative director, about 15 years after launching men’s products. Smith will relocate to Paris for the role and debut his first designs during Men’s Fashion Week in January, leading four collections a year across footwear, leather goods, and accessories. Known for co-founding streetwear label MSFTSrep and collaborating with New Balance, Smith will focus on design, branding, and social media, while Louboutin continues to oversee the men’s category overall.
Permanent ‘Friends’-Themed Café Coming to NYC
Friends fans will soon be able to live out their nostalgic dreams by visiting a permanent Central Perk café in Times Square, scheduled to open this fall. Designed as a modern take on the iconic hangout, the spot will offer artisanal coffee, themed food items curated by chef Tom Colicchio, and feature a replica of the famous orange couch. This will be the second permanent location, following the first in Boston.

‘Miami Vice’ Remake to Hit Theaters in August 2027
A reimagining of Miami Vice is heading to theaters on Aug. 6, 2027, and will be directed by Joseph Kosinski, mastermind behind this summer’s smash hit F1 and billion-dollar feature Top Gun: Maverick. Per Variety, the feature is “inspired by the pilot episode and first season of the landmark television series that influenced culture and set the style of everything from fashion to filmmaking.” No roles have been confirmed as casting is underway; however, Variety says the film will be filmed for IMAX.
Fed Approves First Rate Cut of 2025, With More Possible This Year
For the first time since December, the Federal Reserve cut its benchmark interest rate by a quarter of a percentage point on Wednesday. It also indicated that more cuts could be forthcoming before the end of the year. While approved, it was not unanimous, marking the second consecutive meeting in which there was a dissenting vote.

A proposed $5.4 billion casino in Times Square, backed by Caesars Entertainment and Jay-Z’s Roc Nation, has been officially scrapped after a key vote rejected the plan. Despite high-profile support, the project faced strong opposition from Broadway theaters and local groups. Caesars Palace Times Square was one of eight contenders vying for three new casino licenses in the NYC area, which are set to be awarded by year’s end.
Rec to Accelerate Expansion After Athlete-Focused Funding Round
Rec announced Wednesday the completion of a Series A funding round led by Crosslink Capital and a group of prominent athlete investors, including Larry Fitzgerald Jr., Kelvin Beachum, Kevin Durant (and 35V), Joe Montana (via Liquid 2 Ventures), and Marquee Ventures. The company is building modern infrastructure for recreation and has already partnered with over 50 municipalities nationwide to streamline operations, reduce wait times through mobile registration, and boost revenue for local parks and programs. With this new funding, Rec plans to accelerate its expansion, enhance its AI-powered tools, and further improve access to community recreation.

Popular New York restaurant Sei Less launched a special Hispanic Heritage Month-themed menu on Wednesday, celebrating cultural figures like Cardi B, Fat Joe, Rauw Alejandro, and Ozuna. The $50 prix-fixe menu, available through Oct. 15, features creative dishes such as Cardi B lobster spoons, Fat Joe-inspired wonton soup, Ozuna shrimp tempura, and Rauw Alejandro’s sweet and sour chicken. The menu also pays tribute to stars from sports and entertainment, including Karl-Anthony Towns, Carlos Alcaraz, David Ortiz, and Amaya Espinal.
NWSL Announces Inaugural Combines to Expand Player Development Pathways
On Wednesday, the NWSL shared plans for its first-ever combines, set for December, to give players expanded opportunities to play pro footy. The combines will feature two groups: one for adults (U18-23) that includes top college-aged and aspiring athletes, and another youth version (U13-17) to identify and develop rising talent. Both events will include training, competitive matches, performance testing, and direct engagement with NWSL clubs.
