Vanessa Bryant Shares Kobe 8 'Halo' Silhouette Ahead of Nike Re-launch

Ahead of Mamba Day on 8/24, we have our first look at the relaunch of Kobe Bryant‘s Nike basketball signature sneaker line. The NBA legend’s widow, Vanessa Bryant, shared teaser images of the forthcoming Kobe 8 “Halo” to her Instagram on Wednesday. In her caption, Bryant also confirmed that this will be one of many Kobe 8 “Halo” styles that will be dropping. A follow-up tweet from Nike Basketball added that the shoe will be unveiled during a SNKRS “Live From The Archive” segment on Aug. 10 in North America only. A countdown clock suggests a release on Aug. 23, which would have been Kobe Bryant’s 45th birthday.

Roblox Stock Takes Major Hit Following Disappointing Earnings Report

Roblox disclosed its second-quarter earnings on Wednesday and shares subsequently fell 20%, missing analysts’ expectations on top and bottom lines. The company recorded a net loss of $283 million, or 46 cents a share, compared to a loss of $176 million, or 30 cents a share, during the same period last year. On the bright side, revenue (bookings) rose by 22% to $780.7 million, though CNBC reports analysts were anticipating $785 million. Roblox‘s average daily active users increased to 65.5 million, up 25% year-over-year, and average monthly unique payers were 13.5 million, up 19% year-over-year.

Inter Miami to Drop Limited Edition Merch in Bape Collab

As if you needed another reason to pick up Inter Miami gear, Major League Soccer’s most popular club recently announced a collaboration with clothing brand Bape. The limited edition capsule includes pullover hoodies, t-shirts, sweat shorts, and headgear. Pieces will only be available exclusively at Bape stores in China, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, and the United States beginning at 11 a.m. ET on Aug. 19. In Florida, you can find products at the Bape store in Miami, in addition to a limited number of pieces on sale at the Inter Miami CF Team Store while supplies last.

Vernon Davis, NLE Choppa Headline Monster Energy BIG3 Celebrity Game

Some of the biggest names in entertainment are coming together in the name of charity. On Thursday, BIG3 and Monster Energy announced the return of the second annual Monster Energy BIG3 Celebrity Game. In celebration of the anniversary of 50 years of hip-hop, this year’s festivities include a special musical performance by Doug E. Fresh and Big Daddy Kane. Game participants include retired NFL tight end Vernon Davis, NLE Choppa, Rico Nasty, and reality TV star Ashley Darby. The game is scheduled to tip off at 12 p.m. ET from Capital One Arena in Washington, DC on Aug. 19 and will air on Saturday, Aug. 26 on CBS. According to the release, more celebrity participants and special guests will be announced soon.

Combat Star Claressa Shields Inks New Deal with PFL

The Professional Fighters League (PFL) announced Wednesday that two-time Olympic gold medalist and three-division boxing champion Claressa Shields will return to the PFL SmartCage on a multi-year deal. According to the release, Shields will make her PFL SmartCage return in 2024. “My goal remains unchanged; I will be the first athlete to hold championships in both boxing and MMA simultaneously,” the 28-year-old said. “I have grown so much since my first MMA fight and cannot wait to put my skills on display.” Shields made her PFL debut in 2021 and went 1-1 in two appearances.

Google & UMG Working Together to Address AI in Music Concerns

Google and Universal Music Group are negotiating a deal on how to license the voices and melodies of artists for artificial intelligence-generated songs. Conversations are still in the early stages, but The Financial Times reports that both parties are discussing the potential development of a tool where individuals could make AI-generated songs but the appropriate copyright owners would be compensated. The artists would have a choice to opt in to the process. Talks between Google and UMG come at a concerning moment where people are using technology mimicking artists’ voices and posting the results to TikTok and other social media apps. Popular musicians with recognizable voices like Drake, Ariana Grande, and The Weeknd have all been subjected to this practice.

NBA App & NBA.com to carry FIBA's 'Courtside 1891' for 2023 Basketball World Cup

The NBA App and NBA.com will host FIBA’s digital platform — “Courtside 1891” — allowing fans in 20 countries and territories to purchase the FIBA World Cup Pass, the NBA and International Basketball Federation (FIBA) announced on Wednesday. The news comes nearly two weeks ahead of this year’s competition when it tips off on Aug. 25. Host countries for the FIBA World Cup are the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia with the tournament featuring 32 teams playing in 92 games. The USA men’s national team plays its first game against New Zealand at 8:40 a.m. ET on Aug. 26.
