Usher was one of the biggest winners of the 2024 BET Awards on Sunday night, not only taking Best Male R&B/Pop Artist but also being honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Donald Glover Announces Next Film ‘Bando Stone & the New World'
Award winners weren’t the only thing being revealed at the BET Awards. Through a film trailer aired during the show on Sunday night, Donald Glover announced the title of his upcoming latest venture and movie, Bando Stone & The New World. The movie will include an exclusive soundtrack from Childish Gambino, with the lead single — “Lithonia” — dropping on Tuesday.
"Inside Out 2" Becomes First Film to Hit $1B Since "Barbie"
Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out 2 continues to dominate the box office, officially crossing the $1 billion plateau over the weekend, bringing in $1.014 billion worldwide as of Sunday. In addition to being the highest-grossing film of 2024, it’s also the first movie to hit the billion-dollar mark since Barbie. Elsewhere in the film industry, after collecting nearly $7 million in previews, A Quiet Place: Day One recorded the best domestic opening weekend of the film franchise with $53 million.
Mets' Jose Iglesias Performs New Single "OMG" After Win, Becomes Number 1 Latin Song on iTunes
When New York Mets infielder Jose Iglesias isn’t performing his duties at shortstop, he’s performing under his stage name, Candelita. After helping his team earn a 7-2 victory over the Astros on Saturday, Iglesias came out of the dugout with a microphone and performed his new single “OMG” in front of the 32,000-plus at Citi Field. Teammates such as Harrison Bader and Starling Marte, who had been vibing to the song before it was even released, were out on the field with Iglesias taking in the moment. Less than 24 hours later, it was already the No. 1 Latin song on iTunes.
Redbox Files for Bankruptcy Protection as Streaming Dominates
Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment, the parent company to the popular Redbox kiosks from the early 2010s, is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The petition was filed on June 28 after the company failed to pay employees and vendors for at least a week. In the filing, Chicken Soup, which is also well-known for its self-help books, disclosed its total debts sit at $970 million.
Nike Teases Return of Coveted Wu-Tang Clan Collaborative Dunk
If you missed out on getting one of the 36 pairs of Nike’s collaborative shoe with Wu-Tang Clan that included the group’s logo on it from 1999, you may get another chance. Over the weekend, Nike teased the return of the exclusive pair of the Dunk High sneakers in a black and yellow colorway. While there’s no official word on when the shoes — which have listed for as much as $50,000 on resale sites — will drop, but it’s expected to be in the Fall.
