WNBA Reportedly Going North to Toronto with Newest Expansion Team

The WNBA expansion is nigh, with the league set to launch its newest team in Toronto ahead of the 2026 season, according to a report from CBC Sports. The ownership group will be led by local billionaire Larry Tanenbaum, who serves as the minority owner and chairman of Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment. With the WNBA adding a 13th team in the Bay Area for 2025, a franchise in Toronto would push the league’s total to 14. The report states an official announcement from the WNBA is expected on May 23.

BIG3 Basketball League Lands First Team Sale at $10M Price Tag

Ice Cube‘s BIG3 basketball league is evolving, selling its first team, according to a Bloomberg on Friday. The report states that DCB Sports, a sports investment group led by Gary LaDrido, purchased the team for $10 million. It is the first team sale for the BIG3, which seeks to have each of its 12 teams establish city-based homes, including London and Toronto, in its next chapter. Ice Cube recently discussed this next step, saying, “We need to plant our roots in cities so we can be more than a rolling all-star game coming through.”

Sphere Reports $170M Revenue, Eyes New Entertainment Headliners

The Sphere has quickly become a must-see site in Las Vegas. As a result, the James Dolan-owned venue drove big numbers for its parent company, Sphere Entertainment Co. The Q3 report revealed $170.4 million in revenue at the Sphere, up from $167.8 million in the previous quarter. The famed director recently cast A$AP Rocky to star alongside Ice Spice and Denzel Washington in his newest film, High and LowThe film is a remake of the 1963 Japanese cult classic, originally directed by Akira Kurosawa. High and Low will be distributed by A24 and launch on AppleTV+.

Kylian Mbappe to Leave Paris Saint-Germain After 7 Years

After months of speculation, Kylian Mbappe released a nearly four-minute video on Friday confirming his impending departure from Paris Saint-Germain. “I will play my last match at the Parc des Princes this Sunday,” Mbappe said in the video. The 25-year-old has spent the last seven seasons with PSG and is the club’s record-holder with 244 goals scored. The news comes amid rumors that he is going to join Real Madrid. In February, BBC Sport reported that Mbappe had already agreed to sign with Real Madrid, though nothing was official yet. All eyes will be on Mbappe until he announces his next move.
