Michael B. Jordan’s Next Project Coming in Early 2027
Amazon MGM Studios is set to release Michael B. Jordan’s forthcoming heist film The Thomas Crown Affair in theaters and in IMAX on March 5, 2027. A reiteration of Norman Jewison‘s 1968 project of the same name starring Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway, Jordan is both directing and starring opposite Taylor Russell. It’s been a productive month for Jordan, who continues to receive praise for his role in Ryan Coogler‘s SINNERS as the film eyes $100 million at the domestic box office.
Jeff Bezos-Backed Slate Auto Reveals Tesla EV Truck Rival
Slate Auto, a new American electric vehicle startup backed by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, recently unveiled its first product, a budget-friendly electric truck that also converts into an SUV. Priced at $20,000 with the federal EV tax credit, features in the vehicle include 17-inch wheels and a five-foot bed, and more than 100 different accessories that customers can use to personalize the truck to their preferences.
NWSL Submits Paperwork for Developmental Division II League
The NWSL has formally submitted paperwork to U.S. Soccer to create a developmental Division II league, multiple outlets confirmed Friday. Teams in the new federation would all play each other twice in a 14-game season, before the top four sides participate in a postseason. The NWSL has eight affiliate teams lined up to play in the inaugural season from existing teams Bay FC, KC Current, North Carolina Courage, NJ/NY Gotham, Orlando Pride, Racing Louisville, Seattle Reign, and Washington Spirit. The league’s goal would be to have all current clubs operate a Division II team within the first four years.
Yahoo, OpenAI Interested in Buying Chrome
If Google is forced to sell Chrome, Yahoo and OpenAI have both indicated that they would be interested in purchasing the web browser. U.S. Judge Amit P. Mehta suggested dismantling Google and selling parts of its business, including Chrome and potentially Android, to break up Google’s online monopoly. Yahoo has also been developing its very own web browser prototype. The trial is set to conclude on May 9, with a decision expected by August.
Quavo-led ‘Takeover’ Film to Screen for Potential Buyers at Cannes
Variety exclusively reported Friday that 13 Films has picked up Takeover and plans to show the project to potential buyers for the first time during next month’s Cannes Film Festival. Starring Quavo and Billy Zane, the action thriller chronicles a parolee’s (Quavo) quest to fix his life, and as he clings to survival, he is recruited by international swindler Gamal Akopyan (Zane) to carry out a high-stakes diamond robbery.
South Carolina Transfer MiLaysia Fulwiley Joins Flau’jae Johnson at LSU
The biggest domino has fallen in the women’s college basketball transfer portal scene, with former South Carolina guard MiLaysia Fulwiley committing to play for Kim Mulkey and the LSU Tigers. Fulwiley averaged 11.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, and two assists as a key off the bench for Dawn Staley this last season. She joins a talented LSU squad that already features Flau’jae Johnson and Mikaylah Williams.

Olympians Tara Davis-Woodhall, Hunter Woodhall Sign with Nike
Nike confirmed Friday the addition of Olympic couple Tara Davis-Woodhall and Hunter Woodhall to its track and field roster. The current NCAA women’s long jump record holder, Davis-Woodhall won her first Olympic gold in Paris last summer. Meanwhile, Woodhall, a three-time Paralympian, also struck gold in 2024 in the men’s 400-meter T62 while also taking bronze in the 4-by-100-meter universal relay.
Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty Returns with Mental Health Summit
Rare Beauty, the billion-dollar beauty brand founded by Selena Gomez, is hosting its fourth annual Mental Health Summit in Los Angeles on May 1. WWD writes that more than $20 million has been raised for the Rare Impact Fund, Rare Beauty’s nonprofit affiliate dedicated to raising awareness about mental health concerns. Currently serving 30 mental health groups across five continents and helping 1.9 million people, the end goal is to raise $100 million.
