F1's Lewis Hamilton is Leaving Mercedes to Join Ferrari in 2025

Mercedes Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton is set to join Ferrari on a multiyear deal, the team confirmed Thursday. Starting in 2025, Hamilton will race alongside Charles Leclerc after the Monegasque racer agreed to a new long-term contract last week, leaving Carlos Sainz without a seat. Hamilton has driven for Mercedes since 2013 and won six F1 world championships with the team between 2014 and 2020 after previously winning one title with McLaren in 2008. In a statement, Hamilton said leaving Mercedes “was one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make,” however, “the time is right for me to take this step and I’m excited to be taking on a new challenge.”

Taylor Swift Files for 'TAYLOR-CON' Trademark

Taylor Swift has filed for a new trademark on the term “TAYLOR-CON,” according to a filing made on Jan. 27. After several months away from the stage, Swift‘s sold-out Eras Tour is scheduled to resume on Feb. 7 in Tokyo, Japan. Ahead of that, the “Exile” singer will appear at the Grammy Awards this weekend, where she is nominated in six categories, including Record of the Year and Album of the Year.

Messi, Marino & Sudeikis Star in Michelob Super Bowl Commercial

Michelob ULTRA is well-known for its star-studded Super Bowl ads, and this year is no different. This year, the beer company enlisted the help of soccer GOAT Lionel Messi, Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis, and NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino to help fans understand that “you don’t have to choose between an active and a social life.” The 60-second spot features Messi playing an impromptu soccer match on a beach while Sudeikis looks on with commentary and Marino tosses the ball back into play from his boat. To celebrate this year’s ad, Michelob is throwing a Super Bowl party at Topgolf in Las Vegas on Feb. 10 with performances by Lil Wayne, T-Pain, and Alesso.

Check out my full story on the commercial, including exclusive quotes from Ricardo Marques, Michelob’s Vice President of Marketing.

Day 1 of WNBA Free Agency Sees Major Moves

We’re only one day into the WNBA free agency period, and we’ve already witnessed significant transactions across the league. Among other moves made on the opening day, here are some of the highlights: 2019 WNBA champion Natasha Cloud is joining the Phoenix Mercury from the Washington Mystics, Skylar Diggins-Smith is signing with the Seattle Storm, the reigning champion Las Vegas Aces are re-signing guard Sydney Colson, and the Atlanta Dream are signing former MVP Tina Charles and guard Aerial Powers while re-signing forward Nia Coffey. Other reported moves were also made, such as MVP Jonquel Jones (New York Liberty) and MIP Satou Sabally (Dallas Wings) returning to their respective teams. Expect the madness to continue with players such as Breanna Stewart, Elena Delle Donne, and Nneka Ogwumike still left to make decisions.

49ers' Brock Purdy, Toyota Agree to Partnership

Toyota announced Thursday that Brock Purdy has been named as a national partner and brand ambassador, becoming the first active player the car brand has partnered with since agreeing to a partnership with the NFL in October 2023. Not so irrelevant anymore, huh? The San Francisco 49ers QB will appear in national campaigns across digital and linear platforms and at activations attended by both fans and Toyota dealers. Before the 2023 season, Purdy appeared in Toyota’s regional advertising spots, including television and social media executions, for the Northern California Toyota dealers. With Toyota also being an official team partner of the Niners, the second-year quarterback drives a 2024 Toyota Sequoia SUV.
