Tina Fey 'Could Easily' Take Over SNL, Lorne Michaels Says

It’s hard to imagine Saturday Night Live without Lorne Michaels at the helm, but it looks like he has someone in mind to succeed him when it’s ultimately time to walk away. “It could easily be Tina Fey,” Michaels told Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet ahead of Monday’s Emmy Awards when asked if she could be his successor. The show’s creator and executive producer then clarified that he’s not ready to retire from the industry just yet, with the 79-year-old confirming he plans to stick around until the sketch program’s 50th-anniversary show in February 2025.  However, he’ll figure out the next steps “sometime before that.” Fey was SNL’s first female head writer and worked on the show from 1997 until 2006.
