Amazon Invests in Diamond Sports in Bankruptcy Restructure Agreement

Amazon has made a minority investment in Diamond Sports, the company announced Wednesday, meaning Amazon will have the streaming rights to air certain games on Prime Video. Diamond Sports filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in March 2023, but the new arrangement with Amazon should create a next step for the company. Diamond Sports owns 18 networks under the Bally Sports umbrella, giving it the television rights to 11 MLB, 15 NBA, and 11 NHL franchises.

Timbaland Headlines the Songwriters Hall of Fame's Class of 2024

On Wednesday, the Songwriters Hall of Fame announced its Class of 2024, with Timbaland, R.E.M., Steely Dan, country singer-songwriter Hillary Lindsey, and “Footloose” lyricist Dean Pitchford among the inductees. Last year’s honorees were Snoop Dogg, Gloria Estefan, Sade, Jeff Lynne, Glen Ballard, and Teddy Riley. Some notable artists already in the prestigious club include Missy Elliott, Mariah Carey, Jay-Z, Billy Joel, Elton John, and Bruce Springsteen. An induction gala will take place at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York on June 13.

49ers' Trent Williams & FCTRY LAb Collaborate for Limited-edition Sneaker

BIPOC-led footwear brand FCTRY LAb and San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle Trent Williams announced a new sneaker Tuesday. Created for Williams, the Red Knight RNR arrives in a bright red colorway. Williams even gifted both the offensive and defensive teams a pair of RED Knight RNRs to celebrate the team’s success this season. A limited batch of the Knight RNR sneakers are being sold exclusively on www.fctrylab.com and are priced at $150.

Eastside Golf Locks Up Investment from EP Golf Ventures

Lifestyle golf brand Eastside Golf has secured a key investment from EP Golf Ventures, an investment partnership between the PGA of America and Elysian Park Ventures, the brand announced Thursday. Elysian Park Ventures is the private investment arm of the Los Angeles Dodgers ownership group. The investment “will accelerate Eastside Golf’s growth as it launches new product lines and will support its efforts to use fashion to change the cultural conversation around golf, creating new entry points to the game for young athletes and emerging professionals.” Founded in 2019 by former Morehouse College golf teammates Olajuwon Ajanaku and Earl Cooper, Eastside Golf has plans to launch wholesale and women’s apparel, host new golf events, double its pop-up reach in major markets, and more in 2024.

Tina Fey 'Could Easily' Take Over SNL, Lorne Michaels Says

It’s hard to imagine Saturday Night Live without Lorne Michaels at the helm, but it looks like he has someone in mind to succeed him when it’s ultimately time to walk away. “It could easily be Tina Fey,” Michaels told Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet ahead of Monday’s Emmy Awards when asked if she could be his successor. The show’s creator and executive producer then clarified that he’s not ready to retire from the industry just yet, with the 79-year-old confirming he plans to stick around until the sketch program’s 50th-anniversary show in February 2025.  However, he’ll figure out the next steps “sometime before that.” Fey was SNL’s first female head writer and worked on the show from 1997 until 2006.

'The Vince Staples Show' is Coming to Netflix on Feb. 15

Vince Staples shared the first trailer and release date for his new Netflix comedy series, simply titled The Vince Staples Show, on Wednesday. Set to premiere Feb. 15, the five-episode Netflix series is set in Long Beach, Calif., and loosely based on the musician’s life. Initially announced in September 2022, Staples will be joined by Kenya Barri, Ian Edelman, Maurice Williams, Corey Smyth, and Calmatic in producing the show. Edelman and Williams hold dual roles as showrunners.
