EA Sports Returns to Baseball Video Games After 15-year Hiatus

The 2022 edition of GluMobile’s MLB Tap Sports Baseball, its first since being acquired by EA last year, features Phillies outfielder and reigning NL MVP Bryce Harper as its cover star.

MLB Tap Sports Baseball 2022 was introduced Wednesday featuring Philadelphia Phillies slugger and 2021 National League MVP Bryce Harper on the cover. Though the free mobile game has been offered by GluMobile since 2014, this is notably its edition since EA Sports bought that company last year.

The officially licensed game will be free to play and available to download on Apple’s App Store for the iPhone and iPad and on Google Play for Android and Amazon. It will be EA Sports’ first baseball entry since the MVP Baseball franchise ran from 2003 to 2007, and a welcome addition to its Madden, FIFA, and NHL franchises.

“We believe players globally will now have the latest, most authentic Tap Sports game ever at their fingertips with one-tap controls anyone can master,” said Andrew Pedersen, EA’s vice president of mobile, sports. “This season, we’re excited to bring a more streamlined and responsive UI experience along with greater depth and improved realism that allow for players to compete amongst the very best on the diamond!”

Those new Tap Sports Baseball features include:

  • A Champions Tier that will allow players to earn rewards based off their in-game achievements
  • Customizable gear to outfit your avatar that provides in-game boosts to your team
  • New realistic player models and over 300 new motion-capture animations for a more authentic playing experience
  • A cleaner, more streamlined UI with improved response time

EA purchased Glu in February 2021 for $2.1 billion, which included titles like Tap Sports Baseball, Design Home and Covet Fashion with the purpose of accelerating growth in mobile. Tap Sports Baseball is Glu’s first new release under the EA umbrella.

Tap Sports Baseball players who want to keep their All-Star levels and bring over keeper players from last year’s game can do so by clicking here.
