Exclusive: Baron Davis Continues to Soar into Web3 with Playrs

Last Updated: January 26, 2022
The NBA All-Star teams up with Dusty Baker’s Turn2 Equity Partners as part of an ambitious media, technology, and investment partnership.

Baron Davis Enterprises is advising and collaborating with Turn2 Equity Partners on its new holding company, Playrs Holdings, that will fund content creation, share resources, and maximize operational efficiencies, the companies announced Tuesday.

Turn2 was founded by Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker, former New York Mets and Baltimore Orioles general manager Jim Duquette, and others who approach their business as a mix of venture and mergers and acquisitions in the realms of tech, data, media, events, and consumer products. Davis, a two-time NBA All-Star and entrepreneur, will enhance the joint venture’s access to athletes, entertainers, and Web3 and crypto technology due to his early embrace of the space.

“From the jump, working with Playrs was a no-brainer when we collectively realized we share similar platform visions and could form a super team stacked with superpowers ranging from executive leadership, M&A, to authentic roots in the culture, content creation, and more,” Davis told Boardroom. “My team believes we can accelerate Playrs’ timeline as a result of this collab.”

Davis is accomplished in the investment space, putting early bets on companies like Overtime, Triller, and Clubhouse.

“Baron is a visionary and a compassionate difference-maker with whom we’re grateful to partner at precisely the right time,” said Playrs Co-founder Jarett Sims. “We share the goal of uplifting the culture and empowering creators and believe that, together, we can have a greater impact in amateur sports and amongst fans through the fusion of Web3 technology and media.”

The venture will also include Turn2 exec and former MLB Advanced Media Executive Vice President Dinn Mann.

“BD’s ingenuity, leadership qualities, and competitive drive are the reasons he’s poised not only to win big, but to make that the case for those in his company,” Mann said. “Just as much, how he’s wired, his track record and life experiences serve as a bold, informed runway to our futures.”
