Boardroom catches up with the USWNT legend to learn more about her transition into a life beyond professional soccer.
From the moment she made her professional soccer debut in 2011, Alex Morgan quickly established herself as a dynamic force on the pitch, earning a reputation for her speed, agility, and precision in front of goal. She played a pivotal role in the US Women’s National Team’s 2012 Olympic gold medal win and continued to shine at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, where she was instrumental in helping secure the USWNT‘s victories in 2015 and 2019. Morgan’s long list of accolades includes those two aforementioned World Cup titles and an Olympic gold medal, as well as numerous individual honors, including being named US Soccer Female Athlete of the Year and earning a spot on the NWSL Best XI multiple times.
Off the pitch, Morgan has become a prominent advocate for women’s sports and equal pay. Now, after a decorated career, she is shifting her focus to entrepreneurship and investing, seeking to make her mark in the business world and continue empowering the next generation of athletes across sports outside of soccer. Among the many things Morgan has actively invested in include the new 3v3 professional women’s basketball league Unrivaled and TGL Golf‘s Los Angeles Golf Club. The 35-year-old is also Managing Partner of Trybe Ventures, a venture capitalist firm Morgan co-founded with her husband, Servando Carrasco.
In the latest episode of Boardroom Talks, we’ll dive into the “new era” of Morgan’s life, from her transition into a life beyond professional soccer to welcoming her second child. We’ll also touch on her thoughts about the current generation of athletes, a nod to Taylor Swift’s influence as it pertains to the “post-playing career” era, and the bittersweet reality of saying goodbye to the players fans grew up watching. As a new chapter unfolds for the legendary forward, perhaps this is just the Alex Morgan we weren’t yet introduced to, settling comfortably into this new normal.
