WNBA Partnership Brings Live Women’s Sports to Buzzer for the First Time

WNBA fans will soon be able to access live coverage instantly, with notifications tailored to their favorite players and teams.

The WNBA just got more accessible to sports fans nationwide. The league announced on Thursday that it has partnered with Buzzer, a mobile platform that gives users instant drop-in access to the live sports that matter to them.

The W is now officially the first women’s professional sports organization to feature on Buzzer.

Currently in its Early Access phase, Buzzer has already partnered with the NBA, NHL, and PGA Tour. Users can search for and follow any team or player within the available leagues and receive live notifications to drop in and watch during big moments.

“We are continually looking for innovative ways to engage and attract fans, and this partnership with Buzzer will provide greater exposure to our game and will showcase the elite play on the court by WNBA players,” WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert said in a press release.

Buzzer will also give basketball fans access to WNBA League Pass, making big moments available via micropayments. Fans will also be able to purchase a League Pass subscription directly from the Buzzer app.

“Buzzer serves as a bridge to bring the magic of live sports to more fans,” company founder and CEO Bo Han said in the release. “Through this partnership, we hope to help convert the incredible awareness and cultural currency the WNBA is experiencing into actual tune-in, bringing an even larger live audience to the league and its players.”

The app is expected to officially launch later this year and has already compiled a roster of A-list investors, including Michael Jordan, J. Cole, Sabrina Ionescu, Naomi Osaka, and Patrick Mahomes.

The company also announced a $20 million Series A fundraise at the end of June.

“As someone that spends so much time on my phone, Buzzer is a product that caters to how I, and many other Gen Z fans, consume sports,” Ionescu said. “Buzzer recognizes the importance of amplifying women’s sports and reaching younger generations of sports fans, and this partnership with the WNBA is just the first step in realizing our mission to advance visibility of women’s sports.”

Fans interested in joining Buzzer can now download the app via the App Store or Google Play Store, set their notification preferences, and join the waitlist.

Additional league partners can be expected in the near future — but only the W can claim it was the first women’s sports organization to join the Buzzer family.
