On July 28, Patrick Mahomes became the king of football trading cards. Less than four months after a Tom Brady rookie card went for $3.1 million, setting the all-time sale price record for NFL wax, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback raised the bar.
In a private sale, a 1-of-1 2017 Panini National Treasures Platinum Mahomes-autographed rookie card graded in BGS 8.5 condition sold for $4.3 million.
Now, a close relative of that super-rare, super-expensive Mahomes card is up for grabs — but thanks to the Collectable app, more than just one buyer will be able to get their hands on it.
Another 2017 National Treasures Mahomes 1-of-1, the “Red Laundry Tag” #161 Jersey Autograph, debuts for an IPO Thursday. Collectable’s innovative platform allows for fractional ownership of the card, with individual shares available at $5 per unit.
“Patrick Mahomes is the natural heir apparent to [Tom] Brady as the biggest name in football,” Collectable CEO Ezra Levine told Boardroom on the occasion, noting that if a similar 1-of-1 of Brady existed, it would fetch a serious premium. “Demand for rare assets of both players continues to massively outweigh supply, which has generated incredible returns for collectors and investors.”
This card bears major similarity to the $4.3 million record-setter, but there are a couple of key differences:
- The jersey patch features the NFL shield, a Nike swoosh, and a size identifier (56); the record-setter featured the NFL shield logo from Mahomes’ jersey
- The card is graded in PSA 10 “gem mint” condition as opposed to BGS 8.5, designated as “near mint+”
Given its incredible rarity and pristine condition, Collectable considers this to be the most singularly valuable Patrick Mahomes football card currently available.

In June, Collectable debuted an IPO for an ultra-rare 1914 Baltimore News Babe Ruth “pre-rookie” card, which was announced as the all-time most expensive trading card by sale price to date. The final number was not disclosed as a condition of the transaction, but Collectable stated that it exceeds the $5.2 million paid for a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle and a 2003-04 LeBron James Exquisite Rookie Patch Auto Parallel.

Now, the 2018 NFL MVP and Super Bowl LIV MVP becomes the latest to join the platform’s most elite tier.
