Dr. Dre Cashes in on Catalog with $200M+ Deal

Turns out that people have not, in fact, forgot about Dre. The West Coast rap pioneer is reported to have sold a portion of his catalog to Universal Music Group and Shamrock Holdings. Dr. Dre brought his property to market, seeking $250 million. Although the deal is not finalized at this time, inside sources note that the final figure will come short of that, but is greater than $200 million. In return, the collection – which includes masters of The Chronic, as well as his royalties from his days with N.W.A., his own music, and his producing efforts – is expected to bring in approximately $10 million per year. The deal will go through as two separate transactions, leaving UMG and Shamrock with distinct holdings. The news comes on the heels of the announcement that Dre will be honored alongside Missy Elliot and Lil Wayne by the Recording Academy and the Black Music Collective at an event leading into next month’s Grammy Awards.

Things keep getting better for Quinta Brunson. The creator and star of the ABC hit show Abbott Elementary will stay busy, as the network offered the program an early renewal. Brunson and her co-stars entered this week’s Golden Globes as the top-nominated program for the evening and walked out with three awards. However, Brunson has been generous with her wins. Just last week, she announced a partnership with DonorsChoose to bring $1 million in donations to school teachers across the country.
