Fortnite, NBA Collaborate With “The Crossover” Just in Time for the Playoffs

Last Updated: July 21, 2021
The venture features custom outfits, “team battles,” and player bundles featuring Trae Young and Donovan Mitchell.

Need a break from the NBA postseason to game, but still wanna rep your favorite team?

As the the Play-in Tournament gives way to the first round, Fortnite and the NBA have you covered at the item shop and in Fortnite Creative, bringing all 30 teams to the groundbreaking title beginning on Friday, May 21 in a first-of-its-kind collaboration.

Every team’s jersey will be available to play in from the 31-item In The Paint Set, debuting May 21 at 8 p.m. ET. Players can show off their skills with a hook shot emote or a dribbling traversal emote that allows you to show off your handle wherever you go during battles — without having to worry about getting whistled by a ref for taking too many steps. A Mini Hoop Back Bling will also be available in all 30 NBA team logos.

And to take things a step further, Fortnite teamed up with a pair of young NBA All-Stars, Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks and Donovan Mitchell of the Utah Jazz, on their own locker bundles.

Trae’s set features a Scarlet Commander Outfit, Gold Digger Pickaxe, Happy Stars Wrap, and Baller Emote, while Spida’s bundle includes a Cozy Chomps Outfit, Sharky Shawl Back Bling, Stark Splitter Pickaxe, Dynamic Fire Wrap, Fire Spinner Emote. Both curated bundles will be available in the Item Shop starting next week.

But the coolest element of this collaboration? It might just be the “NBA Team Battles,” which are ongoing through May 23.

Here’s how it works: Fortnite players have the chance to sign up using their favorite team and complete a set of challenge tasks inside the game, with each action you take will earning points for the team you decided to rep. The three NBA teams with the most points will send along rewards to their players, with the winning team’s players earning 500 V-Bucks and the NBA championship trophy bling.

To kick things off, the Fortnite creative team will have a blog going live on May 25 showcasing the new NBA Welcome Hub.

You may not be able to control how your team plays on the court. But thanks to this groundbreaking collab, Fortnite players will have the opportunity to deliver some Sweet Victory decked out in their favorite NBA team’s gear.
