Tom Brady Joins Las Vegas Raiders as Minority Owner

After a few weeks of rumors, the news is official: Tom Brady will join the Las Vegas Raiders as a minority owner. Adam Schefter initially reported the possibility on May 12. The sale has one final obstacle to overcome, as it has been officially submitted to the NFL owners for approval.

Carmelo Anthony Wraps Up Incredible NBA Career

After 19 years, Carmelo Anthony is officially closing the chapter on his NBA career. The veteran shined as one of the league’s best shooters. Following his announcement, NBA commissioner Adam Silver spoke on the news, saying, “Carmelo Anthony is one of the NBA’s all-time great players and ambassadors.  We congratulate him on a remarkable 19-year career and look forward to seeing him in the Hall of Fame.”

NFL Owners Make Moves at Annual Meetings

The owners of the NFL have gathered in Minnesota for their annual meeting. They announced that Super Bowl LX will take place in the Bay Area and that Green Bay will host the 2025 NFL Draft. Additionally, they agreed upon scheduling flex possibilities for late-season Thursday Night Football games. They also approved a new rule that would allow for the designation of a player to serve as an emergency quarterback, who must be on the 53-man active roster. Also, if one of the top quarterbacks is deemed eligible to play during the game, the emergency QB is re-designated once again. The league looked to the XFL and USFL as test cases, each of which implemented a similar rule during their respective seasons.

Fanatics Acquires PWCC Marketplace

CFanatics is on a spending spree. The company announced on Monday that it purchased PWCC Marketplace. PWC is well known for its innovations to the collectibles market. With the move, insiders note that Fanatics is putting itself in a position to become a competitor among the high-end sports collectibles auction houses, which is led by Goldin and Heritage Auctions.

Prada and Adidas Team up for First-ever Cleat Collab

The Beautiful Game just got a whole lot more fashionable. Adidas and Prada unveiled their first-ever cleat collaboration on Monday. As with the Gucci x Adidas line, the selected boots represent some of the most popular models for the Three Stripes. They include the Copa Pure, X Crazyfast, and the Predator Accuracy. In addition to the physical versions — which have been debuted by the likes of Barcelona’s Pedri and Lyon’s Catarina Macario — the silhouettes will be offered as part of a custom kit on FIFA 23 Ultimate Team.

XFL Announces Second Annual HBCU Combine 

The 2023 XFL season is in the books. The emerging football league spearheaded by The Rock and Dany Garcia will host its second HBCU combine that will be open to HBCU athletes. In a statement, the league’s Senior Vice President of Player Personnel Doug Whaley said, “When the XFL says it’s a ‘League of Opportunity,’ we mean it and you can see it in the actions we take to offer equal opportunities to players across the country.” The showcase will take place on June 17.

The app, founded by two fintech professionals who found themselves searching for a simple solution as they prepared for their future together, announced the successful completion of a pre-seed fundraising round, bringing in $2.75 million. Plenty attracted a number of high-profile investors including Phenomenal Ventures, Rich Kleiman and Kevin Durant’s 35V, and more.
