Alabama, Georgia Dominate as They Head to National Championship

SEC teams have had a tough run through this year’s bowl season. Heading into the college football playoff games last night, SEC teams had notched an 1-5 record. However, Alabama and Georgia did work the rest of the conference could be proud of, as they each dominated Cincinnati and Michigan, respectively, setting the stage for an all-SEC national championship title game on Jan 10. For their appearance in the playoffs, each team earned $6 million for its conference, but in the SEC, each school takes home $2.05 million for a semifinal appearance and an additional $2.15 million for the national championship.

Tom Brady Tops Fanatics’ 2021 List of Memorabilia Sales

Tom Brady had a huge 2021, from taking home his eighth Super Bowl title to nearly dropping the Vince Lombardi Trophy in the ocean as the Buccaneers celebrated their title with a boat parade. The 44-year-old quarterback sat at the top Fanatics’ list of memorabilia sales across all of its platforms. Shohei Ohtani, Michael Jordan, Aaron Judge, and Patrick Mahomes rounded out the top five.  

Eminem Jumps Aboard Bored Ape Yacht Club

Turns out the Real Slim Shady may be a gold jacketed Bored Ape. Eminem became one of the newest members of the Bored Ape Yacht Club, purchasing Bored Ape #9055 for $450k. Following the sale Marshall Mathers updated his Twitter avatar to reflect his purchase, demonstrating that he is part of the club.

Wild, Blues Skate to Return of NHL’s Winter Classic

One of the NHL’s greatest traditions is set to return in Minneapolis on Saturday. The puck drops on the Winter Classic at 7 p.m. EST as the Wild take on the Blues at Target Field. The annual outdoor event is back after a one-year hiatus, and this year’s game honors The State of Hockey. Fans will take in the action amidst sub-zero temps, as the forecasted high is -4. 

Becky Hammon Officially Named Head Coach of the Las Vegas Aces

It’s official: the San Antonio Spurs assistant coach is heading back to the WNBA. Becky Hammon, who spent 16 years in the league, and will take over the sidelines in the city that raised her number to its rafters earlier this year. Hammon played much of her career with the San Antonio Stars, which moved to Vegas in 2018 and took on the Aces name. Hammon will take over the Las Vegas squad in time for the new season, but she is expected to remain with the Spurs until then. Reports suggest that in addition to the head coaching position, Hammon will serve as the general manager as well.  

New Year’s Eve Celebrations Sweep the Metaverse

With the omicron variant sweeping through communities across the country, many people opted for a cozy night in to celebrate the new year. But this year, staying at home didn’t have to mean that you missed the biggest parties. There were multiple celebrations across the metaverse this year, from Paris Hilton and DJ Skee, who brought Vegas vibes to their event, to a recreation of the iconic Times Square ball drop, there was a little something for everyone.
