Kobe Bryant’s 81-Point Pre-game Jersey Heads to Auction

The legend of Kobe Bryant lives on forever. In what is believed to be the first public auction of Kobe Bryant game-worn memorabilia, Sotheby’s will sell the shirt that the Mamba wore in pre-game warmups prior to his 81-point explosion against the Toronto Raptors in 2006. The auction goes live on Feb. 22 and will accept Bitcoin and crypto in addition to fiat currency. Plus, the winning bid will also get an exclusive NFT by artist Karvin Jeung that celebrates the significance of the number eight in Chinese culture.

Netflix’s “Drive to Survive” Slated for Mar. 11 Premiere

Formula 1 is one of the world’s fastest-growing sports, and much of its exponential development over the last few years could be tied back to the Netflix docuseries “Drive to Survive.” The show takes viewers behind the scenes of the global sensation, introducing them to the dynamic personalities of the sport. This year, the cameras are back and the 10-episode fourth season is set to premiere on Mar. 11, providing the perfect preview for the official launch of the 2022 circuit on Mar. 20. 

ViacomCBS Rebrands as Paramount as Sports Broadcasting Drives Revenue Surge

ViacomCBS posted fourth-quarter earnings that far outpaced expectations, reporting a 16% year-over-year increase in revenue, putting them over the $8 billion mark. The company announced that it is rebranding as Paramount in order to streamline with its streaming service Paramount+, which has 56 million subscribers across the globe. The surge in revenue is a byproduct of many factors, including ViacomCBS’ deep portfolio of sports broadcasting, which includes the NFL, PGA TOUR, and the Champions League.

Boardroom Announces Partnership with FanDuel

Boardroom and FanDuel have agreed to a multi-year exclusive content-focused partnership that spans web, editorial, video, audio, and social media, the companies announced on Wednesday. As part of the deal, FanDuel is now the exclusive sports betting, fantasy, horse racing, gaming, casino, and poker partner to Boardroom, as well as its official odds provider. Boardroom and FanDuel will co-create a show debuting later this year that will be featured on both companies’ networks, with FanDuel also sponsoring other select Boardroom content.

Buffalo Bills Emerge as Early Super Bowl LVII Favorite

The parades are still rolling in Los Angeles as the Rams continue to celebrate their hometown victory. However, it’s never too early to place your bets on next year’s Super Bowl odds. The NFL futures odds at FanDuel Sportsbook have the Buffalo Bills as the favorites to hoist the Lombardi Trophy (+700). They are followed by the Chiefs (+750), a repeat for the Rams (+1200), and the Cowboys (+1200). 

The Atlanta Braves Prep to Bring World Series Trophy to the Metaverse

Pitchers and catchers are glaringly not reporting to spring training this week as scheduled, as the MLB’s labor battle rattles on. However, the World Series champion Atlanta Braves are preparing to greet fans in the metaverse. The Braves are teaming up with gaming company Unreal Engine to build Digital Truist Park. Together, they will create a full-on, gamified, in-browser reconstruction of the 2021 World Series champions’ home venue in the limitless land of the metaverse.

Apple Makes Critical Amendments to Cannabis Policies, Seeks Reform

Last summer, Apple joined Amazon as the only premier tech companies that directly amended its policies to favor legalizing cannabis in the United States. As part of the move, Apple allowed products in the App Store that facilitate the delivery of legal recreational and medicinal bud in states where it is legal. The change is considered to be a step towards changing mainstream minds and behaviors in the quest towards full-scale legalization in the US.
