Cristiano Ronaldo topped Forbes’ highest-paid athlete list for 2025 for the third year in a row and fifth time overall with $275 million in total earnings. Over $100 million behind him are Stephen Curry ($156 million) and Tyson Fury ($146 million) in second and third, respectively, while Dak Prescott ($137 million) and Lionel Messi ($135 million) round out the top five. Combined, the top 50 earners raked in $4.23 billion, up from the previous record-high of $3.88 billion set last year.
Christopher Nolan to Shoot ‘Odyssey’ Exclusively with IMAX Cameras
Making history as a first for a commercial film, Christopher Nolan plans to shoot the entirety of his forthcoming flick The Odyssey with IMAX cameras. Following the success of Oppenheimer, which made more than $190 million on IMAX screens and won him a Best Director Oscar, Nolan challenged IMAX to upgrade its cameras for ease of use. The Odyssey is set to open next July and stars Matt Damon, Charlize Theron, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Lupita Nyong’o.
Napster Returns After Infinite Reality Rebrands
Napster returns a month and a half after being acquired for $207 million. The company that bought the music streamer, Infinite Reality, announced Thursday that it will rebrand as Napster Corporation, “adopting the iconic name synonymous with digital disruption, innovation, and bold challenge to the status quo.” With the launch, the company is also creating a new division, Napster AI, where all of its artificial intelligence products and services will live.
49ers Reportedly Selling Minority Stake, Team Valued Over $8.5B
The San Francisco 49ers are reportedly selling a roughly 6% stake in the franchise at a valuation over $8.5 billion, breaking the record for the highest valuation in a sports team deal. Per the report, the five-time Super Bowl champions are selling off capital to three private investors: Billionaire Vinod Khosla, Byron Deeter, a partner at Bessemer Venture Partners, and Iconiq Growth founding partner Will Griffith.

Former Dallas Mavericks majority owner Mark Cuban has taken on a new role: Managing Partner of Harbinger Sports, a $750 million private equity fund aimed at purchasing minority stakes in NBA, MLB, and NFL teams. According to Bloomberg, Cuban and his co-partners, Steve Cannon and Rashaun Williams, hope to put forth $50 million to $150 million in each transaction, using secondary offerings to exit the positions within seven to 10 years.
