Rihanna Revealed as Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show Headliner

Rihanna will be taking center stage in Glendale. The nine-time Grammy award winner took to Instagram to confirm that she would perform at this year’s Super Bowl halftime show just days after Apple Music secured the rights for the event. The photo, which features her tattooed hand holding a football and effectively no caption, took the internet by storm on Sunday. The NFL also changed its bio on Instagram to read “national fenty league,” reflecting the Barbadian superstar’s last name. Rihanna fans are hopeful that the news could signal that she is finally preparing to put out new solo music for the first time since 2016’s ANTI.

Georgia, Alabama Go One, Two in AP Top 25 Poll

It’s an SEC battle at the top of the AP Top 25 poll. Georgia and Alabama remain one, two following their runaway victories over the weekend over Kent State and Vanderbilt, respectively. Ohio State, Michigan, and Clemson round out the top five, each with a perfect 4-0 record. Alabama will have its first true test of this season, as it takes on No. 20 Arkansas this weekend.

NFL Looks to Overhaul Pro Bowl with New Format

The NFL Pro Bowl is one of the most underwhelming weekend in sports. The NFL is looking to do something to change that. The AP’s Rob Maadi reports that the change will take place for this season’s events. The “Pro Bowl Games” will take place on Feb. 5, live from Las Vegas. They will include an extended skills competition and a flag football game. Early reports also indicate that Peyton Manning‘s Omaha Productions will collaborate on the production, and Manning himself will serve on the sidelines as a coach of the flag football game.

James Earl Jones Sells His Voice to Fuel AI Darth Vader

James Earl Jones has one of the most iconic voices in film history. For over 45 years, he has been the unmistakable voice behind Darth Vader in the Star Wars franchise. Now, the 91-year-old has ensured that his legacy will continue on. He sold the rights to his voice such that it can be used for years to come. According to a report from Vanity Fair, the Ukranian company Respeecher, “which uses archival recordings and a proprietary A.I. algorithm to create new dialogue with the voices of performers from long ago,” is working to preserve his voice for the foreseeable future. The first AI rendition can be heard in the Obi Wan Kenobi series and was the byproduct of months of extensive work in the midst of the Ukranian conflict.

Apple Prepares to Offer In-app NFT Sales

Apple is stepping into the future. The tech giant will reportedly enable NFT sales within phone applications. However, the new technology will come at a high cost for creators. Apple reported plans to take a 30% cut of profits. The reports have solicited extensive blowback in the tech community. Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney taking to Twitter to accuse Apple of effectively trying to kill “all NFT app business that it can’t tax” with the elevated commissions.

Robert Kyncl Secures $15M Payday with New Warner Music Group Gig

Robert Kyncl has an extensive résumé of driving innovation in the entertainment industry. Now the veteran executive is heading to Warner Music Group, where he will take over for outgoing CEO Stephen Cooper. According to new SEC filings, Kyncl will take in a first-year salary of $15 million. The compensation includes a combination of base pay, performance-based bonus, and nearly $10 million in shares.

SiriusXM Pushes Pause on Brett Favre Show

Anyone listening to yesterday’s NFL lineup on Sirius heard Brett Favre’s voice repeatedly disrupt the commercial breaks with his Copperlink ad. However, inside sources reveal that the Hall of Fame QB will no longer be part of the programming lineup. The Super Bowl champion is embroiled in an investigation of the misappropriation of welfare funds in the state of Mississippi. Sirius has decided to put Favre’s show The SiriusXM Blitz With Brett Favre and Bruce Murray on ice until further notice as the investigation unfolds.
